Day 5 Post-Op: Normal To Be Able To Drink 4 Ounces In 5 Minutes?

Recommended Posts

So I started drinking Water earlier and as usual, I stop when I feel my sleeve is done. Except, I felt like I could keep drinking. I didn't get my usual "full" sensation from the water, no bubbles, nothing. I stopped after I realized how much I'd had in such a short amount of time, but now I'm worried that I have ruined something.

Is it just swelling around my stomach going down? Is it possible to bust your sleeve on water? Is it OK to be able to drink normally without needing to use medicine cups or stop every few sips??

Thanks! :)

I'm wondering the same thing. Had my surgery on the 19th. I'm able to take bigger sips and haven't been using my medicine cups for over a week now. I do get an uncomfortable feeling if I drink too much, and it still takes me pretty much all day to get all my fluids in, but I'm also concerned that my being able to take in more liquid at a sitting may damage my sleeve..

Hi! I am 12 days post op and had a similar experience. Everything was very tight and Water almost hurt to drink the first few days, then on day 5, things seemed to open up a lot overnight and everyday thereafter, as I'm assuming the swelling was reducing. Since then I can drink near normal sips of Water without issue. I have been in a panic thinking I'm stressing the sleeve out with this and searched lots of old post on the subject. Then general consensus seems to be that the pyloric valve allows water to empty so quickly that the water doesn't have time to back up in there and stretch the pouch or harm you. I can drink about 6 oz. in 5 minutes now, easy. I freak out over everything, and once I read things other people wrote, it calmed me down, and now I'm just thankful I can get it down easy!

I am feeling the same way, I can drink my Water and Protein Drinks as well as I did pre-surgery. I don't chug water anymore but regular drinking feels fine to me. Glad to hear I am not the only one. Now if only the pain in my larger incision would decrease my life would be fantastic. Tomorrow marks the 7 day post op. Curious as to what the scale will say. I have not weighed myself since surgery yet. I figured I would give my body time to get ride of all the swelling and fluids pumped into me before checking the scale. Wish me luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
