I am just wondering if there is anyone out there that didn't stick to their pre-op diet and if so what was the outcome??

I will be unpopular when I say this but who cares? I was 360 pounds before my surgery. I required no pre-op diet except 2 days of liquids before the surgery day and Milk of Magnesia. I had no complications and in 10 weeks have lost 70+ pounds.

Everyone cheats on their pre-op. And why not? You're never going to be able to eat like that again after the surgery. Live it up now. Just my 2 cents.

Everyone? Really? ;)

I believe one of the reasons most of us wound up having weight loss surgery is because we weren't in control of what we ate, eating the proper portion sizes, and made bad food choices even when we knew it isn't the healthiest choice. We didn't follow the rules and look where we ended up prior to surgery. It takes discipline to follow the pre-op diet and post-op diet. Think of this as the first of many challenges you will be faced with for the rest of your life in making good food choices. Listen to your doctor and nutritionist. If you don't,as many others have said, you will not be as successful after surgery. This is major surgery. If you do not follow the pre-op and post-op diet the results could be fatal. Is it worth risking your life to eat whatever it is you want to eat at this time?

When I was in the hospital a tech told me about a patient who wanted to eat something and he was told his body was not ready for it by staff at the hospital. He went out and ate the food before he had healed enough and wound up back at the emergency room and died.

You are having this surgery because you want to lose weight and to get healthier. Keep your eyes on the long-term goal and don't give in to short-term goals and distractions preventing you from reaching the finish line.

As Laura Ven said about food funerals, "you eat the food and it's gone." After it's gone all you have is extra calories and an empty container.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Everyone does NOT cheat on their pre-op diet. I had a two-weeker and I followed it. I also started a 'smart eating plan' months before trying to learn what my life post-sleeve would be like.

I ain't perfect and I work at this every day.

To quote Laura:

" this will take some willpower and some personal responsibility"

And darlin if I can muddle through YOU can!!! Win this one!

I didn't stick to my pre-op diet 100%. I had to do two weeks all liquid and I would say about 5 of those days towards the end I did have about half a cup of shredded cheese or a piece of deli ham. I was craving so bad for something to chew. The closer it got to surgery though, I stuck to the all liquids, and everything went amazingly.

Sabredy - how are you doing now?

Each day seems to be getting a little bit easier. I had a hard time sleeping last night b/c I was so hungry, but I'm really proud that I didn't give in. Today is flying by - hopefully tonight is easier than last night.

We are close to only a week to wait! :)

Glad you're doing better and that you spoke to your doctor. I imagine most doctors will work with you if you are struggling. It's getting close!!

I'm doing ok. I'm at 786 calories for the day and it's 8:07pm here. I'm really wanting something bad, but pretty sure I will just have a sugarfree popsicle and go to bed.

It's really easy to try and talk myself into eating something bad. I know if I stay strong tonight tomorrow will be easier. We are getting close.

Driving to the hospital this time 6 weeks ago, I was a total jumble of emotions, but the biggest one was disbelief. That lasted well into being wheeled into pre-op. "Is this really happening?" And then I woke up from surgery. Crazy.

I have been very lucky with recovery and loss thus far. First two days, a little discomfort but everything went better than I expected. I don't know what I lost pre-op, but in the 7 weeks since the pre-op appointment I'm down about 32 pounds (234 to 202.) There was one weeklong stall in there, but I am ecstatic about the overall progress.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
