Funny thing is, I have NO health issues at all!! My BMI is bearly 40! The diet my surgeon gives out is general! I'm 255 pounds and 5"8" so I'm a rarity for WLS. I think one week is quite sufficient, my argument is, "if I was able to so 3weeks high Protein I wouldn't be here in the first place :(.

Just so you know, my husband is 6'0 and weighed 270 or thereabouts. Both of us were at 37 BMI and we were told to do 1 and 2 week pre-ops. I had no weight-related comorbidities.

Either trust your doctor or don't. But don't look for excuses to disobey him/her. And if you don't trust your doc? Don't let her get near you with a scalpel!

I like this thread. I am less than 48 hours from starting my pre op liquids only diet. I intend to stick to it, and it's good to know the first three days are the worst. I am working those days, and will have to accommodate for work, but I will survive. I am very busy usually at work. I've done most of my shopping, and have enough to last me through post op week 1 liquids I think. I actually appreciate the "tough love" on this forum. There is no reason why I can't live in liquids for a week and I look forward to feeling better. I have been eating all the junk I know I love And kind of feel disgusted with myself. I'll eat lightly tomorrow and ease into my liquids tomorrow night and the next morning. Good luck to those of you beginning your pre op diet and to those that are in the thick of it.. This means surgery date is coming soon! What we all have been waiting for!

The first 3-4 days are hell. And then you feel SO dang good and have so much energy, you won't believe it. You'll wonder what all the fuss was about. If you cheat, you're back to needing to detox again and that's the hellacious part.

But the pride and confidence that comes from doing it right? Priceless. Don't cheat yourself out of that win.

Girl can I be honest here?

I'll assume you said yes..

What I'm hearing from you is a lot of justifications in this last post..

You are barely fat enough to have this surgery, you are healthy, if you could diet you wouldn't need this surgery..

Spoken like a true food addict.

I recognize it because I am a food addict.

We are sneaky addict beings, and will justify about anything to get our way..

Did you bring up these points about barely being fat enough or not needing a three week diet or being healthy to your surgeon when he was getting you ready for the pre op stage? Or did it all sound ok and doable then?

Oh and you are not a rarity a lot of us were barely 40 BMI :)

And now the defensiveness starts. You're gonna need a lot of head work. Good luck though, been there!

I really don't mean to be defensive, I can only talk as one person and I can only tell one story and that's mine!! I'm not looking to see if it's ok, because it's done now!! As the post reads I was looking for someone who did what I did and what happened?? That's all x x

You're gonna be ok. I cheated. I lived. I am losing weight post op. Just do your best until surgery and you will be fine. The chances that you won't be ok are small. No use worrying about what has already happened. Focus on what you CAN control. You can do this!!!!

You can still do it!! Listen, I know...even now it's hard for me when I mess up not to give in totally..

It's something I'm still working on. :)

You messed up a bit. But you can get through this. It may not be pretty you may snap at a few people, you may even cry. Sh*t at one point I got all dramatic and ran upstairs (well more like waddled :P) to bed in the middle of the day and told my husband to let sleep until surgery day..

IT IS NOT EASY!! But it's doable..

And you can turn it around right now at this moment.

"Nothing changes if nothing changes, and if I keep doing what I've always done, I'll keep getting what I've always got, and will keep feeling what I always felt."

I am actually stating FACTS I don't even have high blood pressure, I do know I have to reduce my liver size, but people do this in two days!!

So depleting glycogen stores in your liver rarely happens in two days. The general consensus is 7-10 days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
