I'm twelve days post-op and down 10 pounds since surgery. I have had it very easy. My surgery went smoothly. My recovery has been quick and amazing. No nausea. Little pain. Day 8 I was back to work where I'm on my feet 8 hours a day. No food has made me ill. I'm not sure how much I'm able to consume because I haven't pushed it to see, but easily a cup without any hiccups or weird body signals to stop. So, yes, I've been very fortunate. The challenge for me will be to make the right food choices in the right amounts. I had a half of a cookie last night, chewed very well, just to see if the sweetness was going to be too much for me. Nope. Sigh. I had a small taste of pumpkin cheese cake the other day. Nothing. Geez. My tummy is just all too happy to accommodate whatever I do so I don't have the fear factor of getting sick to help me slam on the brakes. So, I will continue to document my food and Water intake. And Monday will be two weeks post op and I'm going back to the gym. People say the sleeve isn't a cure; it's a tool! And now I understand what they mean. Best of luck to everyone!

You are so right-- it is a tool. It helps, but we have to choose good things to put in it! Discipline is key. Glad you're feeling well.. :)

I'm not going to beat up on you, because it seems that it's a growing trend for the newly sleeved to "push the limits" and eat off plan in the very early days.. So honestly it seems a lost cause for me to preach.

You are less than two weeks out, your stomach is numb and likely you will not "feel" fullness yet, this is why the prescribed diet and measuring.

As for the sweets? Yes I often say the sleeve will not jump out of your stomach and knock that crap out of your hand..

Dumping or feeling sick from crappy sweet or fried food is mainly something bypass people get. Very few sleevers get it.

Now, in the early days is the time to make some dietary changes. You will need them because trust me it gets to be more about you and your free will to make the good or bad choices when you get further out :)

I was sleeved on 11/14, so we're close in dates. I, too , have had a fairly uneventful recovery - I think I've had it easy. I took a total of 4 pain pills and haven't had to take anything else. My sleeve hasn't rejected anything I've tried, which worries, me a little for the future.

I would suggest to anyone that reads this to stick to your doctor-approved meal plan - your doctor wants you on that plan for a reason. For me, testing my sleeve is a slippery slope. Give me an inch and this bitch will take a mile!

I'm significantly below my 800 calorie limit, and my Protein intake is between 70 -90 on a daily basis. My Fluid intake is 64 + So I'm on my plan. My dr hasn't told me not to eat anything specific. Protein first. I'm 5'10 and have gone from 255 hw, 242sw and 231 today. I'm completely comfortable with my process and my progress.

Did your doctor give you a food progression plan? Or a list of foods you should eat? Or more specifically....what where the instructions? Certainly it was not to test your sleeve so early out to see what can be tolerated.

You're right....alot of discipline is involved. I too never had any dumping or slimes....or met a donut my sleeve wouldn't hold. Some of us can hold way more than others.....but just because we can eat it....doesn't mean we should. This is where weighing and measuring portions can really help until you get a good feel for a proper intake. And while you may be on your calorie goal, you're eating so few calories you really need all the good and healthy nutrition you can get out of those calories. Remember you're no where close to being fully healed. Concentrate on good nutrition until you're closer to goal and closer to good health. Then bring back the treats that you feel you want and need....but within reason of course.

I'm glad you're feeling well. Just want to say to be careful with adding in the treats. I know now it seems like one bite is no big deal, and it probably isn't, but these tiny little habits that you develop now are what come back to bite you in the ass when you're a year or more out. I wish you great success, and you're so early out. Enjoy the ride!

For me, I worry not about what my sleeve will tolerate because it hasn't had issues with anything except bread and dry chicken. It's more of an issue about what my brain will crave that may be bad for me. We're all different so this may not be an issue for others, but for me, I worry that if I eat sweets, I will want more sweets.

I worry about my brain a lot more than I worry about my sleeve, that's for sure! The sleeve I trust. The brain, not so much. My brain is why I have a sleeve in the first place.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
