I'm in month 2 of my 6 months of "supervised weight loss". I lost 5 pounds the first month but nothing the second month. Actually, I probably DID lose a couple pounds but I gained it back...just like the story of my life. The same old problem of losing and gaining hasn't changed a bit. If I could STICK to a weight loss plan, I wouldn't want to have this surgery. Is this going to be just another failure? How do you successful losers (didn't mean that the way it may have sounded...lol) actually manage to CHANGE? Honestly, this is way harder than the cravings I had while stopping smoking 7 years ago. I wish I could just sleep through the next 4 months, wake up and have surgery. I don't know how to do this...or maybe I'm lazy...or maybe I don't know how to keep my eye on the prize...I just don't know. Does anybody have a clue? Did any of you have the same problem?

I just cheated literally! But I went to the gym and worked for a half hour this morning. I lose 12 lbs. in four days and have gained back 4 of those pounds. :~( but each new day is another day to prove to myself who I want to become. I'm having surgery on 12/5/13 and after that I would NOT be able to cheat at ALL! Not sure if I helped but keep up the good fight!

We all have that problem.... We have fat brains................. Isn't that the reason they have u doing these 6 months........ So they can see that u try but u need a little help...(sleeve).... Don't give up.

I suspect that taking away the ABILITY to cheat would really make me feel better. I wouldn't mind giving up that control at all. Good luck to you, imgood. Your day is just around the corner!

Hmmm...I never thought of it quite like that. I was thinking the reason I have to go through these 6 months is to prove I CAN make lifestyle changes...when in reality, I don't believe I can without an external force...therefore my desire for the surgery. Good point!

I think the thing that help me get through it was knowing this wasn't a regular "diet"

That at the end of it I would finally be getting real help! Do what you need to do and know that this time it will be different :)

If you want to kill your cravings, you have to go low carb. There is no other way around it, at least not for me. I go cold turkey, no sugar, no rice, Pasta, bread--just eggs, turkey, chicken and veggies. First two days are hell, headaches, grumpiness but after you're over the hump--the cravings are gone and you can make through...

Lyndy, my surgeon told me when I was pre-op to avoid white foods: Pasta, potatoes, rice, bread, sugar. I found that when I have a hard and fast rule like that it's easier than having to make a judgment call every time I face food. I lost 25.5 pounds before my surgery and didn't feel deprived because the Protein was so satisfying. It was a struggle to keep portions small, as it always will be, but you might give this some thought. It's good practice too, for me, because I don't think I will want to go back to eating these items with any regularity because they are such triggers for me.

Good luck! You CAN do it! This whole process is easier than living with the extra weight and health problems for the rest of your life. It's a little bump in the road. Hang in there!

Your attitude is terrific but please understand that being sleeved does NOT take away your ability to cheat. It is still hard and you will have to work constantly to make good food choices. The sleeve is a tool not a cure but it certainly makes things easier and doable. Good luck!

After my sleeve, my stomach will be to traumatized to eat, cheat or anything else. Over the last two years I have lost 60lbs on my own. I'm at a plateau now. I have put a lot of work into changing how eat, what goes into my body and exercise. I'm past ready for this next step. As far as the cheating goes, I've added spinach to my broth with fresh green Beans. Just to feel full and get a different taste in my mouth. The support here is amazing, thank you all!

OK...today I pulled myself together and planned to have a liquid day with only Protein shakes, Water, and my morning coffee. I did well, and felt stronger and better about myself. And then I got home after work and ate about 3 ounces of cold turkey white meat with nothing else. I'm still counting it as a victory because I briefly thought about how good it would be with stuffing and cranberry sauce but I stayed the course. Tomorrow I think I'll add some broth.

Lyndy, thanks for putting into words exaclty how I feel... I have the same thougths - wish I could sleep though it, make it go faster.. We seem to have a lot in common - I am on month 3rd (December). During the month of October I did a 1200 cal diet - ate small portions and mostly fish and veggies - and lost 2 lbs in 30 days. I was so upset that ever since I haven't even tried and I am sure I have gained.

Now it's time for my 3rd app with my doctor and I know it will not be a good appt. I am really upset at myself.

I appreciate the advice below about staying away from Rice, Pasta, bread and sugar. that makes about 60% of my meals. I really do not like meat very much at all so that is my go to. Clearly I need to re thinkg this. Maybe you and I could work though it together!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
