Vicki, mine is January 6 and I am scared too. But I keep reminding myself of the consequences of NOT doing the surgery. My back hurts, my knees hurt, I am not enjoying life like I should be. I want that better life! Remind yourself of all the reasons you are doing this when you get scared. :)

2biglamb curious about something. Does your provincial health cover your surgery here in alberta or do you have to pay? I was soooo happy to learn our alberta health care covers it now. I was going to self pay in great falls Montana at around $15000.

Manitoba health is covering it!!! They are also covering my travel which ever form I chose! I am flying it not only gets me there sooner but I will feel safe with tonnes of people around. I could drive but it would be all by myself for a 12 hour drive.

I looked into the sleeve and it was supposed to cost me $16,000 and I would have to fly to Toronto on my dime. I could have waited and had VSG here in winnipeg but it would mean surgery in late fall of 2014. I just want to start my journey already!

What does your pre-op diet consist of? I start my second week on it tomorrow. It is a lot harder than I expected! I have lost 13 pounds in 6 days. I have been dreaming about food at night. Lol!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
