Stick with it guys! You are doing the hard part! I was starving on my two week liquid diet. I wanted to give up too. Now I am one week post op and not hungry. And if I get hungry, it is a teeny tiny hungry, not like it was those two weeks. And my 4 oz of yogurt or cottage cheese completely fills me up. Sometimes I can't eat it all. :) You can do this!

Thanks Betsy:-) that is exactly what I needed to hear!! I need to keep my eye on the prize! Xo

Let me ask you guys a question. So, has anyone regretted signing up for this journey? I'm beginning to. I'm 2 days away from my surgery, on a 14 day liquid diet, and all I want is a thick juicy cheeseburger. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm making the right decision. Is this normal?!?!? Help!!

Jessie, I had surgery yesterday. The pre-op liquid diet was pure hell for me actually. On Sunday, my Mom and I stopped at the grocery store [for her] and she bought everything to make steak hoagies. I thought about cancelling...that is how badly I wanted to eat and a testament to how hungry I was feeling. The anxious had set in by then too.

BUT here I am 16 hours post surgery and let me tell you, everything is f-i-n-e...no hunger, very little discomfort, and relief. RELIEF is an amazing emotion.

Hang in there. Keep going.

Allow yourself the struggle, acknowledge that you have nearly fulfilled the two week liquid commitment, then remember how far you've gone to get to today.

Can't sleep got RNY in the morning. Feeling a little insomnia

Cassandra, I had very little sleep the night before as well. It was the kind of anxiousness where I just didnt know what to do...so I read the forums here. It helped tremendously. Dig into some old threads. Take several deep breaths. No joke. It does help.

Best wishes to you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

KCamp, I am ao glad. Seriously, just hold on...this is just part of the passing through. I am amazed at how great and relieved I feel so quickly. That's not to say there are not rough days ahead of me [still a lot of wonder and unknown] but I am sitting in my hospital bed SO PROUD AND RELIEVED that I saw this journey completely through.

You got this!! xo

My surgery was Jan 9, my second. I did lap band a yr ago. Expect this.. insomnia before during and after. Expect sensitive taste and smell to the point of feeling pregnant. . You will not want a cheeseburger or cake.. it's hard to want anything even when I felt a hunger pain on day 3. Expect when you leave the hospital to feel worse on day 3-7 your body is no longer getting their nice pain meds and antiflamitory and the liquid meds they send u home makes you nauseous. What to do... have liquid Tylenol on hand and use it instead, keep Water sipping even in bed. Remind yourself that you will eat again! Love and hugs to you all

Hello all! I want to encourage you all. The liquid diet is HARD but you can do it. I am 6days post-op and let's talk about the realities of post-op life. For me, I have no pain, just some discomfort. I sleep on my side with a very soft, thin pillow under my belly. I have had no trouble with nausea except after the pain meds. I'm able to get the correct amount of Protein in but have yet to eat more than 350 calories in a day. When I found out my mother in law was taking my kids to Fuddrucker's (amazing burger restaurant), I cried. A burger sounded fantastic even though I know I could not eat it now. If it were in front of me, I would probably not even want it. I am head hungry. I do not feel any real physical hunger. What I really crave is Water. I tell you these things because I think half the battle ahead of time is not knowing what to expect after. You can do it! I won't say it's easy but it is so worth it!

I crave Water more than I ever have & all I drank before was water. I also thought I would want more sweet types of Protein, but have found salty broths, cream Soups, blended soups, etc., have been my favorites. I'm on day 5 post op & I haven't had to take anything for the pain since I got home...I am only sore, never in pain. That liquid pain med was so awful tasting I want to vomit just thinking of it. I haven't had any trouble sleeping since I got home...I use soft pillows & a body pillow & I sleep at least 8 hours. I've truly been very blessed & hope you all have as good an experience as I have had. Blessings to all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
