I wonder.....has anyone had the Sleeve done and found that they no longer need psychiatric medications? I am on Prozac for my OCD/Anxiety/PTSD. At the moment I'm taking the liquid form. I just wonder if losing weight helps with "those" kind of issues?post-181095-0-24867600-1385696751_thumb.jpg

I am taking (and have been for a few years now) Zoloft for anxiety and depression. I still managed to take the pills post-op as they REALLY tiny. I have to say that after being sleeved nearly five months ago, my mood is more stable than ever. I think it's probably a combination of better diet and a lot more excersie. I have started running and I think that helps me SOOOO much. I wouldn't say I don't need to take them anymore (at least not yet) but I am feeling good so I can't complain.

My doc and I made the decision not to continue weaning me off of my Cymbalta (for depression) during my weight loss. I've gotten down to 20mg/day, which is the lowest dose. We figure it will take the edge off any stress that could lead to poor eating choices, stabilize the hormonal moods, and keep my head where it needs to be -- IN THE GAME. I'm in no rush to ditch it.

I am taking 40 mg Prozac daily. Without it I have severe clinical depression. Even with it, winters are rough. It took me years to figure out the right dosage/antidepressant to be able to function.

I am scheduled for surgery 4/16 & I am terrified that my level of medication will change, that I will lose ground and not be able to function.

How does the surgery change affect medications for chronic conditions?

I had surgery in jan and by February's end I was off all meds. Was on lexapro and Ativan. PTSD and generalized anxiety. I feel great and a lot more stable.

Hi, just curious about taking Cymbalta... I take it as well but in the generic form, which is a capsule.

My Doc said I could still take it even the day of my surgery. It's just a normal size capsule but I'm still concerned about swallowing it!

Did you have this problem or did you switch to liquid (if they make liquid)?

My anti depressant and anxiety meds were cut in half. She wanted me to try it without them. I said NOPE! I have a very stressful job, that is the only place I have stress in my life and I just cannot try to gt rid of it yet!

I take zoloft at the hospital. Have not taken it since. I'm 8 days post op but today I feel like crying. I hate having pain. I guess I should take it. Did anyone get a little blue? Just curious. I don't have anyone to talk to cause my husband had to go back to work....... boo me....

My doctor prescribed Cymbalta to me for fibromyalgia, and while it worked like a charm at getting rid of the pain, I decided the side effects were not worth it. I was not told beforehand how horrific it is to come off of that medication. Holy Hell! If you've never tried to come off of it before, don't do it now when your body is already going through so much. I could not then (more than a year ago) and cannot now express in words what I went through when I stopped taking Cymbalta, but it was a freaking nightmare. I only took it for two months, and had such an awful time with withdrawal side effects. I can't imagine what it would be like for anyone that has taken it for years.

I have been on Prozac for a few years and I am 5 months post op. My dosage hasn't changed in over a year , but I am planning on talking to my PCP about increasing my dose. I have chronic pain issues which mess with my head and have a direct effect on my weight. Our weight loss can have an effect on how antidepressants are metabolized. Definitely keep up regular appointments with the doctor prescribing your antidepressants to make sure you are still taking the correct dose and the dose that meets your current needs.

OMG! FINALLY!!! I take prozac for the same reason and I'm having amnesia. My primary says it's probably the prozac. I asked this question and I can't find anything...do your psych meds need to be reduced as you lose major weight? Im losing my freaking mind!!!

I'm bipolar with anxiety too so I take a handful of meds and I have no intention of going off them. The world can't use an unmedicated me. I'm concerned about the doseage to body weight.

High five, girl!

The world can't handle Ms. A without lexapro.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
