Incision On Stomach Is Leaking

Recommended Posts

Hi well one of the incisions which there are 5 is leaking a clear Fluid and is slightly red. Dont think its infected but I am concerned. I know if its a color or smells like puss its infected. Thank God I dont see that. I think if it was infected I would have a fever or something obvious. Lets see what happens. Feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Well I'm at the emergency room at the hospital getting my incision looked at. There was a substantial amount of puss coming from the incision and it is bleeding.

Well just got back from the emergency room at the hospital. They prescribed antibiotics and bacitration for the incision with gauze. They took a culture. So monday I have to call my surgeon and have him get the results of the culture. I guess monday ill take it from there.

Antibiotics are the way to go. It should clear up any infection if there is any. Bacitracin will keep it nice and clean. On any surgery I've ever had they wouldn't let me keep gauze on there past the first two days. They always told me they wanted it to dry out, but I've never had any incision not heal except for one in my belly button when I had my gall bladder removed. It just would not freaking heal and my surgeon told me to stop using neosporin and stop covering it. I did and it healed great. You can't even tell there's a scar there. But.... Yours is possible infection so follow your doctors orders to a T :)

Hi, well tomorrow I see the surgeon so he can look at the infection on the incision. The infection looks under control with the antibiotics. I change the gauze twice a day using bacitration. I also air it out when im home careful not to rub it against anything. I dont have a temp, my blood pressure is good so is my blood sugars. So I guess Im almost out of the woods.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
