My Mom Just Worked My Nerves

Recommended Posts

Ugh! Whenever I talk to mother I have to go through 21-Questions, as if I'm some little kid about what I'm eating, how much weight are you averaging a week, are you exercising, how much and for how long, what are you eating, how much, are you drinking enough Water, and blah, blah, blah!

After I answer her 21-questions.... this morning's criticism session consisted of her telling me that if I'm only averaging 1-2 lbs a week this soon post-op, I must be doing something wrong because my sister, who had RNY by the way, lost waaayyyyy more than that, and it's been one year, and she still loses more than you are averaging in one week.

I told her when I had my 30-day check-up that the doctor stated the 25 lbs I had lost was comparable to an RNY patient, she commences to telling me doctors will tell you anything, and that is not the same as a by-pass because they want to make you think you made the right choice because your sister lost more with RNY. Then she says, "if you were only going to lose 1-2 lbs a week, you could have just stayed with Weight Watchers.

Thanks for the Morale Buster, Mother! Ugh. *tears*

First, congrats on your success!

I'm sorry you aren't getting more support, but don't let this derail your plan for today.

Sending ((hugs)).

Rule # 1

MOMS ARE CRAZY!!!

Rule # 2

When talking on the phone with them it's always best to multitask, and just say "yep" and "ah ha"

Once in a while...

For instance when I talk to mine I'm usually watching "real housewives" at the same time or playing "words with friends"

:D

Thanks everyone! When I was going for my orientation, the material they gave us stated we would lose 1 - 2 lbs. a week with the sleeve. I know everyone's average is different, but were any of you told what the average lose per week would be?

Nope, nobody gave my group such an average...

I was not given any weekly average. I was told, on average, the sleeve will provide for a total weight loss of about 70% of ones excess weight. Some more, some less. They wanted to make sure I would be satisfied with only losing 70% of my excess weight.

I have not told my mom about my WLS for fear (read: dread) of the conversations your mom is having with you. I sure feel for you.

I am sleeving 12/23. I haven't told my parents who are 1300 miles away for the very reasons that the group has listed. I also haven't told my children 15 and 21 so they won't worry. Feeling a little guilty. Anyone else not telling immediate family. P.S. My husband knows and is 100% supportive even though he says I don't need surgery.

Hi I am not telling anyone. My Mother is a worry wart and will ask me 21 questions until my ears bleed. I am hoping to have my surgery during the winter break so my son will be away visiting relatives. That will give me time to heal. I just don't want to hear anything until I'm ready to share. Jus1Nita I feel for you and the comparisons. In a few years you'll be able to see who is better off with the weight loss and maintaining. It's better that the pounds come of slowly instead of instantly. It gives your body the chance to catch up and you don't look so sickly. Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
