I would love to get others opinions.

I was sleeved on Oct. 7th and everything is going great. My only dilemma if you want to call it that is that it seems that eating is more of a chore than pleasure. Maybe it's just me. I sit down wondering ...is this going to upset my stomach? Will it settle? Will I be able to sit here and endure it for 30 minutes?

Don't get me wrong. I get all my Protein in with no problem. Just curious.

Chime in.

It will get easier as time passes. You won't always feel the way you do now. I noticed eating became more pleasant again around month 4. Hang in there!

Oh I know...I try to be excited but it's not there...it's like it's more about survival...but I am gonna overlook it today...Oh yes...LOL

Too funny - I thought that last night...Chore, that's a good word for how I felt last night. I was seriously short on my Protein yesterday and that's probably why I felt a little funky.

I tried drinking a shake (OMG - I did not want a shake). I drank about 1/2 of it and couldn't stomach any more.

Later in the evening, I made myself a scrambled egg...about 1/2 way thru, I was like, "This egg seriously sucks and it's taking me forever to eat it!" I threw the other 1/2 away and went to bed.

Today is a new day, however. I was able to get down about 3/4 of a scrambled egg and I was fine with it. I think I'm in a better place today than yesterday. I'm going to work hard to get the 80 grams of Protein in that the doc wants. It helps that I can start the pureed diet today, but she still wants 3 shakes a day. I vow to do the best I can.

Good luck to you and Happy Thanksgiving!

i think it is because we have spent so long using food as a source of happiness (at least I did) and after being sleeved it becomes a source of energy (nothing more) and it does take a bit of the fun out of eating. I still go in search of that food hit, but Protein just doesn't cut it when you are looking for a food high ;-)

See..that's it....for instance:

I cook dinner and make enough so we have lunch for work the next day. I can eat dinner and be fine. The next day, it upsets my stomach. So I go into a meal thinking..."Ok ..it's not going to settle." But it does and I'm good until the next meal..so it's like a crap shoot.

I am however being very optimistic so don't think I am a Debbie downer...just interested if anyone else has this issue.

I'm the opposite. Look forward to eating, think about it all the time, and in fact my fascination with food increased since WLS. I'm watching the food Network and try new recipes all the time. When I was fat, I ate fast food or heated up frozen food. I might have made my dinner once every 10 days or so.

Thank God my sleeve only allows me to eat a certain amt. Otherwise I'd weight 400!

I used to say the same thing. It was a chore, and often not worth the effort. That does pass, and at some point, you will enjoy eating again. Sometimes I wish I still had little of that "it's a chore" feeling.

I hope it gets easier..at least I am able to get my Protein in. The advice is greatly appreciated. I am amazed however how my tastes have changed since the surgery. What I once liked, I avoid. What I would avoided, like mayo, I kinda like.

Same here...i can't eat some of my favorite foods since the surgery...i used to live for Chinese food...now can't touch it! Beef and pork still cause me pain and I am over a year out....Does not bother me though I have adapted....Love fish now and can't get enough.....

Explore your options and be adventurous with it and you will find new things that make you even happier to eat then the same old stuff.....K

I'm 3.5 months out and there are days it's still a chore. I understand that goes away so I'm enjoying it for now since I'm still trying to lose weight. But I end every day realizing I'm short of calories and then have to down a Protein Shake and another snack in the evening. Can you imagine eating only 700 calories and having calories left over? It's so weird. There are foods I enjoy, and they are the Proteins that sit easy in my sleeve. But ask me to eat chicken? I'm filled with dread already!

I have a problem with chicken also. Kinda breaks my heart. I don't get it. I love chicken in any way, shape or form. Almost have issues with red meat also unless it's really, really tender. Ground turkey is fine as is pork. I crave vegetables but I know they are not priority.

I get my Protein in as I should because I can't tolerate the Protein drinks or powders. Those alone make me want to hurl and I would rather eat dirt.

What's working a little better for me is chicken in the crockpot or the pressure cooker. It's SO easy to make in the crockpot. If you are also feeding a family, it's good for everyone. I take an onion and slice it, and put it in the bottom of the crockpot. Then I place a whole chicken or some dark meat like thighs with bones and cook it for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low. No Water added! It's so much more moist and edible, like a rotisserie chicken, except better. I use it for all kinds of things through the week.

the other thing that works for me is to take that chicken and put it into a kitchenaid bowl and shred it like restaurants do. It comes out really fine, and if you mix that with a little mayo, it's finely shredded chicken salad and that goes down a lot easier.

I can't do beef in chunks but ground beef or ground chicken works very well. A little experimenting and creativity in the kitchen helps a lot.

I have all these recipes and more on my blog, and if you are tired of shakes, try the "full liquids" high protein Soups. Nice change.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
