Medifast Post Banding

Recommended Posts

I've heard a good and healthy way to speed up weight loss post banding is to go on the medifast program. Has anyone done this? What were your results? My doctor said he'd be fine with me using this. Just wondering if the weight loss effect is worth the additional cost.

This is strictly my personal opinion, but I got the Lap Band so I don't have to do diets like Medifast anymore. To me, it seems counter productive to learning to live with the band.

Plus, it seems kinda pointless. It says this right on the website: "Typical weight loss on the Medifast 5 & 1 Plan® is 2-5 lbs per week for the first 2 weeks and 1-2 lbs per week thereafter." That is pretty much exactly what you can expect to lose with the Lap Band. So, why waste money on a special diet for the exact same results?

I don't think the Medifast diet is unhealthy, and it if it works for you great. We all have to do what's best for us. But if you're doing it to speed up weight loss you're in for a big disappointment.

Remember, the weight didn't come on overnight and it won't come off overnight either. It takes time.

Best wishes.

a diet is a diet is a diet.......never works....sure it works at the onset (like with liquid diets) but to lose true/actual weight, you must eat less calories then one can burn off.....add some exercise and great food choices (baked vs fried, fresh vs boxed) and no DIETING is needed.....

we didnt get fat and need wls overnight

and it sure isnt going away in a day or two..its a daily/ongoing process....

JMHO, but you need to stop thinking diets, you need to start thinking lifestyle. If you are like most of us, you have lost the weight a hundred times, only to gain it back again. Medifast is not going to teach you how to listen to your band, because it is liquid will will not give you the satiety signals that solid food eventually will. Even if you loose weight with Medifast, you won't be any farther along in your changed lifestyle.

I know it is hard to hear this, but slow and steady is what will win this race. Learn to use the band, learn to be the band. ;)

I'm 4 years post op and haven't been on a diet since...LOVE it!

Obviously, you need to stick to the TYPES of food your medical team recommends during the post op phases...liquids/mushies/etc. But once that initial healing time has passed, let the properly adjusted band do the work. Just try and make healthy choices most of the time.

Best of luck in whatever you find works for you! :)

Yes, it all makes sense. The reason I was asking is that there is a bander I know who was losing 5 lbs a week on this... And it did sound tempting but everything you all are saying makes sense

Slow and steady learn to listen to your band as you get your fills, 5# a week sounds great at first but if they are sliders your only hurting your self by delaying learning how to eat with your band, as you get your fills and move into the green zone you are gonna need to know how to listen to the band and when to slow down and when to stop eating

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
