Chelle 59 Posted November 27, 2013 Hi all.... So at 4 1/2 weeks out, I should be doing great. I'm really not. My stomach hurts almost all the time, I have no energy, and doing anything for any length of time makes me sick and....well kind of like I have been run over by a truck. On the upside I have gone from a starting weight of 239 to 194 this morning. I just dont know if it was worth it....not that I can do anything about it now. But, I did this so that I could have a more active life. Instead I can't seem to do anything for any length of time. Im so discouraged, and getting really down. Am I the only one who wasnt back to normal? Any suggestions? Thanks...

Thanks... hi, I'm three weeks out today and only just starting to feel ok, my energy levels are still pretty low and just doing some light housework today wiped me out so I had a nap. I do feel better every day but it's taking longer than I thought it would. Hope you feel better very soon, take care of yourself. 1 GoldyGirl reacted to this

I still had pain a month out, and I didn't feel energetic until I was hitting Protein goals for a few weeks. It does get bettrr!
oldoneyoungagain 200 Posted November 28, 2013 Yes, it does get better. Remember you have had major surgery, it might have seemed simple, but it isn't. It will take a good six weeks, and you still might tire easily but this will be normal. I'm 71 and have been through two WLS in less than four years. I was back to work within two weeks of each surgery, but on my one day off I would sleep about ten hours and then take a nap and I still do. Just get your fluids and Protein in and it should help with the energy level as you continue to heal. As far as the pain, it too will get better. The major scar, actually where they do all the work, still is a little painful to the touch on me and I'm 2 1/2 months out from surgery. So keep the faith, in the end you will love this journey to a new you. 1 Judyr reacted to this
Truckerchic 171 Posted November 28, 2013 Are you reaching your Protein goals and staying hydrated? I am almost 4 weeks out and average 88 grams of protein a day....went back to work at 2 weeks (12 to 14 hour days) was pretty pooped but this past week has been better. Water even with crystal light at room temp hurts a bit and I think today was the first day my tummy isnt tender to touch. If you get feeling to bad or not able to get liquids in be sure to let your doctor know right away, we all heal different but better to make quick call and be safe
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted November 28, 2013 You're body is doing some serious healing and that takes a lot of energy. When it comes to energy, carbs are king. But when you're on a low carb diet, your body will metabolize Protein for it's energy needs. So as truckerchic mentioned, Protein is your best friend right now (and for some time to come). It can be difficult to get all of your doctor's recommended daily protein (usually 60g to 80g per day for the ladies) for the first weeks following surgery but you want to do everything you can to get as close as possible. Protein is critically important for a whole list of very good reasons including improving your energy level. Ditto for staying hydrated. Dehydration can land you back in the hospital in a heartbeat. Sip, sip, sip. Be patient. Internal healing takes considerably longer than external healing. 45 pounds in four and a half weeks - wow. You're going absolutely great and the best is yet to come! Your energy absolutely will come back and then some, just give it a little time. You're gonna love the new you!! 2 oldoneyoungagain and Judyr reacted to this
Judyr 57 Posted November 29, 2013 I'm 9 days post op and want miracles. Lol I keep feeling like I should be doing better, but thanks to you, it seems like I am right on track. Had hiatal hernia repair also so that seems to have slowed me down too. Was trying to cut back on pain meds and I got so tearful today. Took a pill and my spirit is back to normal. Hard to not have the energy you want.

Hard to not have the energy you want. JudyR you are doing great. From your ticker you actually don't have that much weight to lose. And those of us who don't have that much will lose slower, but it will come off. When I went in for my two month check up the doctor was quite pleased with my weight loss. I gave him a strange look and he looked at me and said I was doing great as I had to remember I didn't have much to lose as other people. I had my hiatal hernia repaired when I was banded and that surgery took a little longer to come back from in 2010. Now of course the pain meds will make you sleepy which makes you feel like you have no energy, but I think the tearful issue is more of a hormone issue which some go through. I'm sorry you are still in pain though. But all of this should come to pass, it just takes awhile.
Judyr 57 Posted November 30, 2013 Thanks for the support. It makes me feel so much better to talk to people who understand what I am going through and maybe have gone through it too.
babs963 201 Posted November 30, 2013 The first month is definitely the hardest... I'm now celebrating my 10 month anniversary and can say it gets easier each month and each day. Keep your chin up.. It's all going to be ok
Equestriangirl 11 Posted November 30, 2013 One thing I learned from this process is that the time tables they give you don't always work for everyone. At 4 weeks I was still super tired and a little foggy. Went back to work at 6 weeks and was still pretty tired. 8 weeks was so much better. food wise my stomach still isn't happy with some Proteins. Make sure you get your Protein, fluids in.

I think that remembering that the time tables for healing and losing weight are different for each of us is one of the most important things! You can drive yourself crazy with worry comparing yourself to others. Just follow the plan your doctor has given you ! Best wishes!
