JoJo1814 5 Posted January 11, 2014 Hi my name is Joanne. I had my sleeve gastrectomy on January 8th. I'm in minimal pain and the hospital stay was not bad at all. The hardest part right now is getting all my fluids in because I have this acid refluxy kind of feeling when I sip but I am told its normal and will get better with each day. The other hard thing is not being able to hold or pick up my 22 month old daughter but I know it's a small sacrifice now for a better tomorrow :-). Good luck to all you sleevers awaiting your surgery, you will do great and for those who have had it, keep,up the great work! 1 FitnFabfor2014 reacted to this
AZDesertRose76 18 Posted January 11, 2014 That's great to hear AZdesertrose76! Have you done the leak test yet? I was loopy also, and a bit nauseous. Luckily no vomiting, that would have been painful to say the least. Dilaudid does wonders doesn't it! I felt nothing after they gave me that . Did they offer you the patch behind your ear? I'm on day four, still store, but once I take my pain meds I can get comfortable. Did they give you a drain? Hopefully you will be able to sleep. I think my longest sleep stretch was 3 hours... still haven't Been able to sleep a full stretch yet. Can't wait until I can sleep on my stomach! Hoping for a pain free evening for you. Yes, I did the leak test early Thursday morning and went home from the hospital Thursday afternoon. I had to wait to go home until I could urinate enough to make the nurses happy. I did have the patch behind my ear but no drain. I'm not a stomach sleeper, but I miss sleeping on my side. I really can't do that right now, but once I'm healed up a little more, I should be able to sleep on my side again. I haven't slept more than four or five hours at a stretch yet; normally I sleep at least eight, but if I have to get my rest in naps for now, that's fine. I hope you're having a good one, too. Thanks for the well-wishes. 1 FitnFabfor2014 reacted to this

Hopefully you will have a speedy recovery. Hi FitnFabfor2014, I stayed one night and was out by 5pm the next day. I still take about two percocets a day, I try and do one towards the evening so that I sleep a little longer. I keep visualizing each day a little better then the next. Hoping that you are feeling better quickly!! 1 FitnFabfor2014 reacted to this
alexisny 45 Posted January 12, 2014 I'm a bit loopy from the pain meds; my surgeon put me on liquid Dilaudid, because I'm allergic to hydrocodone (Lortab, Vicodin) and oxycodone (Percocet, Tylox). I certainly wouldn't dare drive until I'm off the pain meds. I'm not usually nauseated. I woke up this morning with a touch of nausea, but I just sat still until it went away. The medication does feel okay going down because it's liquid; it doesn't taste great but it doesn't taste horrible either. What really tastes horrible is one of my regular meds; it's too big to swallow whole, so I have to crush it and it makes a bitter tasting powder. Yuk! (It's Wellbutrin, for the curious.) Thank you for the quick response.

Mater 63 Posted January 14, 2014 Ok, I'm not a January 2014 sleever. I was a February 2012 sleever. I am taking my mother and daughter to Dr. Kelly for their sleeves on January 17th. I'm excited for them because I know what it will do for them. If anyone else will be at the Hotel Lucerna this weekend let me know. I will be babysitting them and will be glad to talk to anyone else about how the sleeve worked for me and what I have learned about it in the past two years. Good luck to all who are about the start their journey to the new them......
fros1y 3 Posted January 14, 2014 Survived my sleeve on Jan. 10 with Dr. Schwack at NYU Langhone. I had some problems with my heart rate and blood pressure while I was in the hospital, which made me stay on an ICU "step down" unit for 4 nights. Great nursing, but lots of noise. Made it home yesterday and still struggling to remind myself to drink and eat. I've got so little energy that I just feel like sleeping all of the time. And, of course, no drinking while I sleep! Hopefully that'll get better before I run into dehydration problems. Has anyone else found good tricks to increase their Fluid intake in the first week or so? hazeleyeflgal 30 Posted January 15, 2014 I just keep a cup by me and sip all the time. A cup of warm broth went down well this morning. If you haven't had your surgery yet, please listen to everyone and get up and walk as soon as you can afterwards. I had this horrible pain in my left shoulder blade from the gas and the pain pills don't help that at all. I did 4 walking trips during the afternoon and evening of surgery and it completely went away so I could get some sleep (well except for the 8 times someone came in and woke me up for all kinds of stuff). I've got more bruises and puncture wounds from all the IV sticks and blood taking. I had a visit from the bariatric coordinator at the hospital yesterday morning and she told me I was the only one of 6 patients who even got out of bed. The others just laid there and complained although they were told to get up. IT makes a HUGE difference in how good you feel.
joysdelights 24 Posted January 16, 2014 Thank you for the advise. I will walk as soon as they let me. My surgery is January 29 and I am both excited and very nervous. Start pre diet on Sunday.
luckyme2g 35 Posted January 16, 2014 It is amazing how much walking can help. There were several people on the floor who had the sleeve the same day as me and we were all lapping around the nurses station. It was like a bariatric marathon lol 1 MJM2012 reacted to this
MJM2012 27 Posted January 16, 2014 Lol lucky me lol I was walking a lot too...and it helps me tremendously!!! Please walk walkwalk!!!
hazeleyeflgal 30 Posted January 17, 2014 Once you are awake after surgery you should be able to start walking. There shouldn't be any pain since you are getting good pain meds via IV. I just held onto my IV pole cart and walked. I had my hubby wrap a hospital gown around me backwards to keep my tushie from hanging out!! You can't really get a robe on due to the IV in your hand.
