Constant Mild Nausea

Recommended Posts

Can anyone relate? I had my sleeve done about 8 weeks ago. I had no real problems immediately afterward. I have a demanding job and was back at work in a week post operatively. I've been working out and eating well (eating larger amounts than I thought I'd be able to) and life has been great. Well... until the past couple days. I've had a low grade nausea that just won't go away. No matter what I drink. No matter what I eat, it is always there. I expected to experience this earlier on, but it only just recently reared it's ugly head. My own saliva makes me nauseous. I haven't vomited nor do I think that I will. I just wanna know if anyone else is experiencing anything similar or has any suggestions for me.

Could it be reflux? Some develop it after the sleeve who didn't have it before. I had a "honeymoon" from mine immediately after surgery (well, lots better not completely gone) and after a few months it came back worse than ever. Try Mylanta or Zantac (one of the over the counter anti-reflux meds) and see if it improves. If it does, might be time for a chat with the doctor.

thanks for the response. I will have to try some antacids to see if they work. I just think its so strange that after all this time these symptoms are starting to arise.

I have been having the exact same problem and it is why I did this search today. I am also 8 weeks out. The only thing that helps is to eat less and less and drink nothing cold. Not sure what to do.

Do you still have your gall bladder? I still have mine and at about 3 months post op I started with mild nausea, especially after eating anything with fat like cheese. Doctor did a gall bladder ultrasound -- no gallstones. So he sent me in for a HIDA scan which showed a gallbladder full of "sludge" that was pretty much non-functional. Rapid weight loss, combined with a family history of gallbladder issues can cause this.

Gallbladder comes out on Wednesday. Hooray!

By the way, salt can ease the nausea. Try some low fat, salted broth.

Sorry to hear about your biliary sludging. Gallbladder pain is awful from what I've heard. Congrats on being able to get it taken care of soon! ARe you still having nausea? Any pain associated? How did eating over the thanksgiving holiday work out for you with the biliary issues?

Yes, I still have my gall bladder. I haven't had any traditional signs of biliary colic and I hope to God that I do not. One surgery is enough for now. :-). My nausea is a more constant nausea. Not really made worse by eating. In fact, I think I notice it more if I haven't had anything in a while (when my own saliva makes me nauseous). I thought it could have been dehydration, but after downing glasses of Water numerous times, it would not relent.

Funny thing I noticed over the past couple days. After my workouts I'm not nauseous. The more strenuous the workout, the better I feel. I did an hour on the elliptical today and feel WONDERFUL! However, I do realize that an hour a day of strenuous workout while on a 1,000 calorie diet is really not all that reasonable as a final solution.
