Drinking Way More Than 4 Ounces An Hour

Recommended Posts

Hi should I be concerned that I can drink like triple that amount with no discomfort or nausea. Please give feedback on this. Thanks.

No Jayson, you do not have to feel discomfort. I felt no discomfort from the get go. I went from puree to regular diet with no repercussions. I felt a little discomfort the first week with anything cold, but other than that I went for broke. If it didn't hurt and I chewed it very well, I ate it. 4 ounces an hour is half a cup. An entire Water is 16 ounces or 2 cups. Put that in perspective. I felt no nausea or pain at all. There are a few of us out there. Pay attention to your cues though. You should be eating no more than 1/4 to 1/2 cup at this stage. I am a month out and I eat from 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup, but often quit before I reach that 3/4 cup because I am aware that I should be full. Sure enough, I push it away and am fine until my next meal.

Hey, Jayson.

I was sleeved on 11/14, so we're close in dates. I have no issues getting about 8 ounces down in an hour and have for quite a few days now. Water can go thru your sleeve quickly.

I still can't eat a whole egg, however - I don't feel pain, but I can feel "not really hungry anymore". I'm taking that as my cue to stop. It's about 3/4 of the egg with some cheese on it.

I agree with above, you just need to listen to your body and figure out what your signal is.

Hi there I don't have those same guidelines my surgeon and dietitian said liquids flow thru fast so they don't stretch your sleeve, I asked bc I am one week out and drinking well over my 64oz and both Protein drinks! I was worried bc in have no discomfort and can drink as I normally did! They said this is the first goal and I've just reached it faster than most. They also said next week when I advance to mushy food it will be a whole new ball game I'm limited to 1/4c at a time and they said I should definitely feel the restriction then!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
