Is It Okay? I Am So Paranoid

Recommended Posts

Over the last week or so I have started to feel my port more often. I can feel it through my skin and feel it when I am moving around. I just started working out and it feels uncomfortable as I move. Is this more that I am not used to it or should I call my doctor? I had such a bad experience with anesthesia during my surgery I do not want to do anything that will cause me to have to go through it again. Could it be the type of exercise? I have started doing Zumba and that is a lot of twisting and moving. Any thoughts would be great. Thank you!

To be safe, call the doc. As you lose weight, you will be able to feel your port, but it should not be uncomfortable. I have done Zumba for years, before and after lap band without any problem. As I said, call the doc. You will feel better.

When were you banded? I am looking forward to exercising but have three weeks more to wait as my post-op protocol was no strength exercise like stretching, etc. Just the cardio. So it's walk, walk, walk for me. I did try to do some stretching and could tell it was too soon. I think you should call it in, too -- just for peace of mind and maybe some suggestions. Let us know! Best wishes to you.........

I was banded just over two months ago. In the beginning I just stuck with basic walking when I could, but decided to start working my way into some more cardio. I love Zumba and figured I should start with something I love so as not to get discouraged. It is just such a wierd feeling. Not exactly painful but uncomfortable. I am going to give a call in to my doctor just to be sure. Thanks!

As you lose weight you port will seem to move around under your skin. I went through a phase where it hurt to lean against the sink to brush my teeth because the counter hit my port exactly. I lost more weight and it moved a little and doesn't bother me now. Less weight, less sagging.

The port is anchored to the abdominal muscle, and should not move.....at least it is supposed to be but with so many reports of ports flipping I wonder if Dr.'s don't get lazy dealing with a lot of belly fat, knowing they will deal with it later......but i digress...

As you loose belly fat, the port becomes more towards the surface, and more obvious....

I have NO belly fat, my port is right under the layers of skin...you can see, and feel every nook and cranny...you can even see the tubing coming out the side and it snakes for 2-3" before going deep....

I have had many people ask me what it is..a tumor? Hernia? I simply say it is from a surgical implant...that is usually sufficient.

I kept telling the nurse in my doctor's office, that the port moved about an inch higher. She assured me that it's fine. Things feel VERY different with the loss of a chunk of fat. I can really feel the port now, but only when I touch it. And it still feels higher, but that could be because my stomach is much flatter.

Yeppers it is actually the gut moving around. My incision scar is a good two inches away from my port now.

Yes b52 we know the port doesn't/shouldn't actually move. It just seems like it is.

I called the doctor and he said that it is normal to feel it and it is normal that it might feel uncomfortable or sore when I work out. He suggested tylenol and an ice pack. It is just such a wierd feeling!

Like you said, it is normal to feel it more as you lose weight and when you lie in certain positions, like on your tummy. However, if you do find that the discomfort is becoming worse, don't be afraid to contact your doctor again and ask to have it checked just in case it flipped.

I think of my port as my "little friend". Probably sounds dumb, but this surgery was a big deal, and the port is one reminder that I have this implant. As the months go by, I can see how easy it is to go brain dead and slip into old habits. I scares me! Sometimes I'll touch my port as a reminder, and a mental reconnection with my band. Hey, I'll do whatever I have to do to stay on track!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
