Hungry Every Two Hours

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else have this problem. I eat, but, then about two hours later, I'm starving. Is there anything out there that is REALLY filling? I'm so freaking hungry all the time. But, other than that, I'm loving the sleeve.

Same here. 4 mths post op, only able to eat a few bites then I'm full. Hungry 90 minutes later.

A couple wks ago hubby and I were traveling. Ate Breakfast at about 9 am and by noon I was starving. Not wanting to hear "Ur hungry again?" from hubby, I kept my mouth shut. Till he decided he was hungry. Then I told him that I was afraid of telling him I was hungry for fear that he'd tease me and "make me feel fat" by being hungry so soon. He told me not to be afraid, that he's only just kidding. That he's proud of me and so supportive.

I'm embarrassed that I'm hungry so often. Thanksgiving should be fun. I will be able to eat maybe 5 bites of food but then 90 minutes later, be hungry again. I probly should up my Protein intake, lower my carb intake and that might keep me fuller for longer.

I just noticed ur surgery was Oct 21st. At 4 weeks I was continuously hungry, never filling up on the full liquids I was on. Got my hunger back on day 10.

To u lucky ducks who lost ur hunger (whether for good or just temporarily): I salute u. Enjoy it while u can

I'm five weeks out now and my doctor allowed food at 2 weeks post op. SOFT FOODS. But pretty much anything I wanted. For dinner I had tilapia and green Beans. 2 hours later, a deviled egg. And now here at 10, I had half a Fiber tortilla and cheese...Somedays I get my Protein in and I still have the issue.

So that early our constant hunger is a sign of acidity. You should really be diligent about taking your PPI, if you aren't already. Many many people complain of "hunger", but then take the PPI and find it gone. It's worth a try because if you are eating solid Protein and can get in 2 oz, it may not be hunger As long as you are staying under your docs caloric requirements though, at first you may have to eat more often if you can't hold much at a time. So take your PPI and document your intake and somewhere in there, you will find fhe sweet spot. :)

I was sleeved 10/24 and was having hunger soon after eating too. I found that if I wait an hour after eating to drink, rather than the 30 mins my Dr said, I don't get hungry for 3-3 1/2 hours.

Take it twice a day since day 5.

Perfect. Are you eating enough calories in a day?

I'm not sure how many calories we SHOULD be having around 6 weeks out, but I was averaging at about 500. And now I'm averaging at about 600.

I heard that if u drink too soon after eating, you will be hungry much faster. So if u are drinking soon after, wait a little longer.

Also, I totally understand you, because I too am always hungry. If anything, I get hungry much more than before the surgery. I'm glad that at least I get full quickly without being able to pig out on something. I do take the but it's not acidity. It's definitely hunger for me.

How many calories should we be having at around 5-6 weeks out?

I would say don't go above 600-800 calories.

Are you getting liquids in every day? Also, are you chewing your food and eating slowly? If not, you could be getting full quicker than you should with less quantity of food. But then it digests and you are empty again.

That seems to be the norm. I'm six weeks out yesterday and have my Vitamin blood work today with my doctor. I'm going to ask him how many calories I should be eating because my goal in MFP is 850 and it seems like it isn't difficult to get there with normal food, and that worries me. I'll share what he says, of course with the caveat that everyone should listen to their own doctor and not necessarily what mine says.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
