I hope I have the strength to eat soon. All I had today were two sunny side up eggs. I have a horrible flu and anything hurts! Eggs were the only thing I can get down besides broth and hot tea.

Sorry your feeling ill Susie..

The up side? Your first fast day will be a success :)

Dee, that is great that you *finally* got to watch it. I remember you months ago trying and for some reason could not view it. It's totally worth watching.

He has also done one on exercise that is excellent!

I love Horizons and we watch it frequently -- I just need to DVR it regularly, cos watching the replays is a nightmare from here (I used to have a VPN tunnel to our UK affiliate, and then I could watch it on the iPad, but they routed everything through Germany now hmph). I will try to find the exercise one now... :)

@ Susie - on fast days I drink a lot of hot tea, mostly green tea but some black and spiced chai, with a little milk and stevia. Something about these combinations curbs my interest in food. My biggest meal is around 6pm, with a snack right before bed.

Sounds like a plan! Tomorrow is my foray fast day and I'm still ill so maybe it'll be a bit easier, lol

I started doing 5:2 on Wednesday, which was my first fast day. I chose Monday's and Wednesday's to fast, as it works best with our schedule. So, tomorrow is fast day number two for me. I ate dinner super early for me tonight, 7:00. We usually don't eat until around 8:30. Tomorrow, I won't eat anything until lunch at 12:30, which seemed to work well for me last week. I haven't gotten on the scale yet, I refuse to do that until Wednesday, my official weigh day. I am curious to see how I did.

Best of luck Susan! Any tips u would give a newbie like me? Do you have to fast 16-18 hours or is it just about following the rules of 500 cals, Protein, etc.?

Lol not Susan but what the heck I'm here that counts right :P

Yes you really want to get that 16 hour or so window of fasting in.

So for me on Monday (a regular day) I eat my last food at 7pm and the by 7am the next morning you've already gone 12 hours add 4 more hours and it brings you to 11 am. Then you want to consume your fast day calories in an eight hour window..

I go longer than 16 hours and push my first meal out until 12 pm or so because I like to eat dinner or my last snack a bit later :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
