So when I did the very best at 5:2 my fast days were more like 20 carbs but that is not easy. If your hunger is managed staying under 60 then I wouldn't kill yourself over trying to get way low. I did lose like 10# in a month using 5:2 (post goal) and the low carb along with the fasting was the magic for me.

I am always amazed at how everyone on here is able to process what's going on. Me I process things in my and then it's gone. I know that I've had to reflect on how I have gained back 10 lbs and that's not from my lowest either. I have been very careless and just tired of watching my weight. So I took a long break, even stopped getting on the scale. :( I put on a lot of weight when I got married and had kids and was basically not worried about my weight because I was happy and carefree. I would go on diets and lose some only to put it back on again. I do know that in high school I went into a deep depression and it followed me for many many years.....I had so many irrational thoughts that weren't valid and had lost almost all of my friends. So sometimes I hold back on here and I enjoy reading everyone's post here.

Yesterday I attempted at a fast day and did exceptionally well until my hubby made grill cheeses. :( So I called that my dinner. I couldn't believe I can now eat a whole grill cheese sandwich. :( That brought me up to little over 700 calories. Not bad but it was really hard not to eat something in the evening time I was so darn hungry... Today I weighed and I had lost 1 lb. So yayyyy, I now have 9 lbs to get off. I also have a horrible headache this morning and couldn't sleep last night.

I am going to detox my body from sugars today. The last couple of months I have allowed my sugar monster to come back full force. I know what I need to do. I just need to follow through with it and love myself enough to do it..... Happy Friday everyone...... :)

I did lose like 10# in a month using 5:2 (post goal) and the low carb along with the fasting was the magic for me.

I did my first fast day yesterday, and I did okay, I think. My calories weren't as low as I wanted them to be. They came in at 650 instead of 500, but the extra calories came from some half-and-half that went into an unexpected coffee out, as well as six saltines I stress ate following a serious conflict with my husband. Saltines weren't chocolate or Cookies (or whole pizzas like the days of olde), and six was a controlled number, not just out-of-control eating. At least that's what I'm telling myself today -- while I'm resisting the continued stress eating. Haha! The lesson I learned on my first fast day: eat even fewer calories in the day time to factor in more available calories for unexpected evening need. ;)

CJ, I'm so encouraged to know you lost ten pounds in the first month of 5:2. I hope those are the results I see! It's difficult not to feel discouraged after not having really any loss in months and months, and while rationally I know there are very good reasons for me, it's still disheartening. I've been on the longest, strictest diet I've ever been on (pre-op and post-op), and I just need something, anything, to work!

Wow! 10 pounds. michiganchic, that's awesome. Even if water! Lol. And I'm with you, I hated giving up my diuretic ???? I like the "flat" feeling they give of no puff but hey, no HBP either now!!!!

I've lost 3 since Tuesday so I'm happy. Going to try to hang in and eat clean this weekend.

Denise, glad you are about through with the antibiotics. Yuk!

Way to go, Queen!!

I did pretty well yesterday. I had Protein Shakes and a piece of meat loaf for dinner. I don't know what the calories for the day was but I'm more worried about sticking to low carb. I don't want that medicine the surgeon wants me on that is known to cause weight gain to do just that.

Sometimes I say that my body wants to weigh 143 and I should just give up and realize that I am older and 135 is just not in the cards anymore. But I know I eat junk like M&Ms and if I just give up the junk, I'll just have to lose. Giving up the junk is so much easier said than done. The rest of the world that I live in eat junk all the time around me.

@@Georgia I also love that flat feeling, and I miss it. But my blood pressure was never really high, just swollen feet and ankles from being so fat. When I lost the weight, my swelling got much better, but not totally resolved, but my blood pressure would be 80/50, so had to stop them. I'm still not over it, lol. Really, I love that I don't need prescription meds, but it would be good if I could just use that sometimes.

@@Ms skinniness 700 is a great fast day. Sometimes we just have to do the best we can and be glad about it. I do know what you mean about getting tired of watching your weight. I get like that sometimes, too. It's tiring counting calories and carbs and thinking about it and restricting your intake. Once in a while I just need a break. I could also eat an entire grilled cheese, and it kind of makes me sad/mad. I didn't do anything to stretch my stomach, it's just the way it is. sometimes I think I want a tune-up! However, I cant eat everything else I would have before, so I'm still better off.

So one thing I noticed today at lunch is that after detoxing from carbs and sugar and decreasing my intake a couple of days, my restriction seemed greater today. I found that to be encouraging!

I am really surprised. Yesterday I kept my calories down and it was really pretty easy. I stopped the grazing, cut out the sugars, went back to Protein Shakes and Protein Bars, and bought myself a new robe. :) I would of done even better if I could of cancelled the lunch with my son and his wife at a china bistro. Ordered Kung Pao chicken and ate about 1/4th of it. In the evening I had 1/2 a chicken thigh because I wasn't really hungry. I didn't allow myself to have anything, even though I was hungry (in my head). LOL after all that, I lost a lb last night. So I'm down to 153. Yayyyy! I will try to keep it down today too. I love this excess weight falling off so quickly, even if it is just Water weight...... :) Happy Saturday everyone..

Wow!!! this forum has taken off from the last time I was here! So much energy... this is how we get it done ladies!

Have been very good about fasting, have started cooking at home more, and taking charge of my meals, writing everything down and working to get my exercise up to the same level it was before.... In the last two weeks I have lost 3 pounds, but not any over the last 3 fasts :( STALL!!!! I'm still in for the long run though. Feel better taking charge. Just hope for another drop soon.... I was up to 183.4.... now at 180.4.... looking for 171.4..... I am in a "Bariatric" fashion show at the end of Jan. Getting fitted for cloths in 3 days.... sorry I couldn't get into the "70's" for that... bought new spanks to help with the middle buldge. It is incentive to stay on track for sure! I have always been the "moderation" dieter here... a carb eater... just less than before... but I need to get back to a lower level. Being a vegatarian, the Protein first rule is a little harder to meet.... cottage cheese, yogurt, tofu dont quite stick to your ribs like a chunk of meat... but I have done it before, I can do it again! Happy to have such good company here! Hurray 5:2! two years ago I lost 22 pounds of regain and got to goal. much of it from following the 5:2. Its a good plan.

I'm having a hard time getting my first fast day in. I work from home so I tried to get out of the house today and then came back to a house full of kids an lost my control . Monday, i tried to fast but couldn't make it through mid afternoon and crumbled. Today, i tried again and once i hit dinner and fed the rest of my family all of the things that they wanted (cuz none eats the same things), I was too overwhelmed to make myself something separate and gave in. After I added everything up, I thought I'd be up a couple hundred over but instead I was up to 1200.

I usually hover around 1800 cal/day so I guess 1200 is not bad but I was feeling the best last time I was getting some momentum with the 5:2 when I stuck to 400-600 cal/day on fast days.

I do generally tend to have a lot more calories than most on my non strict days. I am also a week away from my TOM but I hate to make excuses.

I'm going to give it a break tomorrow and start up with 5:2 again on Thursday. I hope to have some more willpower then. Sorry to be the downer in the group but I did want to be honest about where I am at.

I find it helps if I plan ahead... write down what your are going to eat when... I just pre post in myfitnesspal.... then keep telling myself " I can eat that tomorrow if I still want to" about treats...

Re-watch the fast diet documentary... it is really inspiring... and you all know that this plan is for longevity? not weight loss! Weight loss is just the side effect.

I like carbs, too! (Who doesn't, though?) For a 1200 calorie day, my NUT suggests not exceeding 120 carbs, but my personal daily range (in that same calorie range) is about 60g carbs. I find if I cross over 70g carbs, I can't think about anything BUT carbs. :) 50-70 carbs is probably where I land each day, so I imagine I'll do about half of that on a fast day. Any special tips about that? Should I shoot for no carbs at all on fast days?

The Fast diet page recommends Protein and tons of low carb veggies. TONS.

Gerogia, hopefully someone will be taking pics... I had to dig out three "before" images... I had my husband do it, as he is the picture taker on our trips and such. Boy or boy! I was one fat girl! I can hardly believe it was me, and I could hardely believe it was me then! It didn't ever really feel like the real me. I feel much more like the real me now. Here are the "before" pics I sent in for the show.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
