He knows that my focus is growth of lean muscle mass and reduction of body fat, not to mention the importance of improving my balance and core strength. He doesn't want me eating less than 1200 cals!! What he doesn't know won't hurt him though and on days when we don't work out I will drop it down to 600.

Big congrats to you! How long did it take, and do you feel like you can keep it up to maintain (maybe 6:1) ?

It took me 18 days to get from 152 to 145. Yes, I will be playing with 5:2 or 6:1 to maintain as needed.

For anyone considering 5:2, it worked for me...why not give it a go?

So amazing! Very happy it's working for you. It has for me too! So glad I finally did it. Had the book on my Kindle for months before getting desperate about losing my "regain!"

Hi everyone. I am new to 5:2 been reading it on it today. I'm considered a vet- 14 months post op. Not where I need to be. I was down 100lbs, I hit a stall last year (I wish I knew about 5:2 back then!) and I was literally stuck at the same weight for 2 months. After that I got discouraged, old habits crept back in and I gained 14 pounds on top of it. Have been back on track and have lost 6 pounds so far. Someone mentioned 5:2 in a regain thread and I'm going to give it a try. This seems doable and I definitely think it will get rid of regain weight and push me past my initial plateau weight. Will check back in and let everyone know how it goes! :)

I have never heard of this before. I actually found this post because I'm in a stall, and looked up stall. So I'll have to look into it. I want to break this stall SOOO bad. I hate it.

So today was my first 'fast' day because I figured no time like the present! Went very well. I think this is something I'm going to be able to do. Feel really good about things. Going to do my next fast day Wednesday. Not sure what my regular fasting schedule will be, need to work it out. I was surprised how easily I was able to stay at 500 calories and while it was a lot less food, wasn't unbearable. Feeling very optimistic about long term success with this! :D

Glad 5:2 is helping. I didn't lose at first and was very frustrated. It did help with getting the sleeve restriction back. Also helped gain control over the evening snacking. Since the few pounds gained over the holiday I hit 5:2 hard. Added a few more fasting hours in my two fasting days and am finally seeing scale move. So congratulations

Wow! I was getting frustrated with old habits returning and the beginning of regain. I went to the maintenance thread looking for inspiration and ideas. I asked about success with the pouch test and then saw FYE mentioned her experience on 5:2 so I started my first week and so far so good. I like that it breaks my cycle. I tend to be an emotional eater with cyclical patterns and the fast days are not very hard but I kinda long for it to do a quick clean out (physically and mentally) of whatever my eating cycle/pattern is at the time. Restriction on the day after is reliable and I am reminded with stronger nudge about why I did what I did by undergoing VSG surgery almost 3 years ago. I really need that reminder every once in a while when I get into a rut.

It took me about a week to read this entire 5:2 thread but it is jam packed with good questions and discussions, thanks everyone especially FYE for the intro to 5:2.

I have a few questions for you vets out there who are enjoying 5:2 benefits:

  1. I find that I wake up really really early now that my tummy isn't weighed down. Even when I don't want to wake up 4 or 5, I do. Does anyone else have this? not sure if this is hormonal or not
  2. This of course translates to being exhausted by 8 PM and needing to wind down and go to bed earlier
  3. I am premenapausal, have you ladies noticed a difference in your cycle (or whatever is left of it)?
  4. Has anyone changed their goal weight downward after learning 5:2?
  5. Do I use 25% of my TDEE or 500 cal? My 25% is below 500....

Thanks vets and especially FYE for your inspiration and your sharing!!!

Most of use about 500 calories as our fast day; maybe 1200 on feast days. That is an approximation.

my goal is 158. I got as low as 140 but never changed it because I need the mental reminder it is OK to weigh in the 150 range.

I am not sure about the sleep but I tend to over do the caffeine as an appetite suppression so make sure you aren't doing that. Maybe your body needs time to adjust?

5:2 worked great for me but I had to stop due to some tough times I was going through. Ready to restart though because I love being 140-145 and I am now upper 140s to 150 range....

Hi everyone, I've been hybernating for a while now and I really need to come back. Need to do the 5:2 eating plan to get back into a healthy eating cycle. I need to facus on eating more Protein so today is my first day back. I was down to 142 and now am at 149. I'm finding that my appetite increased after I stopped drinking crystal light because of an allergic reaction to it after 2.5 years. Today I will focus on getting 500 or as close as I can. This is a great tool to help be get back on track....I am a sugar addict and an emotional eater as well.....Ughhhhhh.....

Ms. Skinniness!!!! You must must must not get to 150!!!! YOu and I joined at the same time, we had both had our surgeries in Oct 2011, weighed the same to start and now go between 139 and 142.....so we are so similar.....I can see me gaining as well but I do the 5:2 and it's only two days a week. I'm often not perfect on it, but at least I always have a lower calorie (no wine no cookie day) on those two days and it has helped keep me from gaining. My feeling is once you cross over to 150 it's a very slippery slope! What can we do to help???? Don't go back there!!!

Am curious about the Crystal LIte thing...is CL bad for you? I just had my sister mail some to me from the States.

Anyway, the holidays are coming up, so please try to get back down where I am....we can help each other.....you have been such an inspiration to me and others with all of your posts...let us help you!!!! JUST SAY NO TO 150!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
