1St Fill 11/20/2013

Recommended Posts

Was banded 10/25/2013. I got my first fill of 2.5ccs on 11/20, last wednesday. Ive not lost but 1 pound since. Is this normal? Will it take another fill to kick in? Ive got a fill scheduled 12/4

Fills do not make you lose weight. Fills only squeeze the stomach making the stoma smaller which in turn causes food to stay in your pouch a little longer which then stimulates the vagus nerve.

Exercise and consuming fewer calories than you burn is what will cause you to lose weight.

BTW-1 lb in 5 days is exactly what the Drs recommend will happen for most of us. Your weight loss should be 4-8 lbs per month so 1 lb in 5 days equals 6 lbs per month. Good luck and keep getting fills to find satiety.

@bandedbecca

Without diet & exercise, dont expect any great loss for the first 3 months or so.

It will take several fills/adjustments to finally reach the green zone & weightloss will be effortless.

12/1 will be 4 months for me & its been a roller coaster ride.

I feel the restriction from the band 5-7 days after a fill, lose 3-5lbs and until i get another fill i regain it all back again.

So 4months in im still waiting for consistent reliable restriction.

I am in the same boat as Pepper28...except I was banded Jan 28. I have not hit the infamous green zone yet. Every body is different and every doctor is different with how much they are willing to put in at each fill. My doctor takes it slow. I am good with that...for the most part. lol

Since Jan? 11 months without restriction? How much does your band hold? How many cc's are u filled to?

You can have restriction without being in the green zone.

Yes, I do have restriction, but I am not considered in the green zone, as a small amount of food does not keep me satisfied for 4 hours. My band holds 12 and I am just under 8.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
