Tired Of Sweet Drinks

Recommended Posts

I'm almost done with the full luquid stage but i went from having no problems with getting all my Protein in with shakes to now I can barely get one down. I'm not a big sweets person and all the sweet drinking is really getting to me. Anyone have good ideas for puree stage on getting protein in where I don't have to drink as many sweet shakes?

I've been thinking myself how to get creative with Protein when the time comes. Because I'm a savory person more so than sweets, and I know I'll get sick of the sweet drinks as well.

An idea I thought of for a puree is made with split peas. If you like pea Soup maybe try this. I'm going to :)

Make some split pea Soup, cooked real long until it's real mushy and not too thick. Add some extra chicken base for extra flavor if desired. Take it and put in a Ninja single serve or a Magic Bullet. Add an addition scoop of unflavored pea Protein (a very good source of protein!). NOW makes a good pea protein. Whizz it up until it's pureed, add more or less pea protein to desired consistency. Would make a nice hearty savory (and hopefully satisfying) protein rich thick soup.

I think it would be pretty good!

Unjury chicken broth. It can be found online. You also could purchase their unflavored and make your own flavor smoothies.< /p>

I hate sweet, milky drinks. I'm still pre-op and am allowed creamy/puréed Soups. I've been eating things like Pacific Organic Cashew Carrot Ginger Soup or Butternut Squash soup with some Syntrax nectar unflavored Protein powder, or Imagine Organics Creamy Broccoli soup mixed with unjury cheese flavored Protein. These are on average $2-3 per box of soup, and each have a little more than three 8oz. servings. It works best if you reserve a little of the cool soup to mix the protein, then when completely mixed, add your protein-filled portion to the heated bit. If you add Protein Powder to hot soup, it gets lumpy.

For the occasional change up, I also mix the unflavored into cottage cheese or into Water with a Crystal Lite packet. It stays thin and doesn't have that awful whey smell.

I also like the Unjury chicken soup protein, and while I find it tastes fine mixed alone in warm Water, I think it would be delicious prepared with warm broth.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
