I have not lost a pound since January. I have been drinking when I eat so I am eating more. I have not gained any weight, just stayed the same. Does anyone else have this problem? I know I am still struggling with food in my head. I am not hungry,I just want food. How do you deal with not drinking when you eat? I am feeling like a failure! I feel like I am loosing the battle and at this rate I am gonna fail. Please someone help me! :help:

Hang in there sister!

When I was first banded I just didn't have anything at the table when I ate...if it's not there you won't be tempted.

Also I tell my patients if you are eating more than a cup of food at a time you need a fill.

Also try and stay away from "squishy" foods. They slide right through your stoma and those types of foods tend to be high calories as well so they all up your calories and don't keep you satisfied very long.

Good luck!...Don't beat yourself up!!

Thanks for the responses. I have good restriction, when I do not drink, I can eat maybe 4 or 5 bites and I am done. Its a mental thing I know. I just have to be more careful. I still just miss food and eating in general I guess. I just think in 8 months I should have lost more, but I am not gonna give up!! Thanks again to both of you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
