Should I Date Another Sleever? (Dfw Area Guy)

Recommended Posts

I will be getting Sleeve surgery next month in Dallas. I live in Fort Worth. When dating before, I always went out to eat. Now, that won't be an option, or at least a good option for me. I thought maybe if I meet another sleeve woman in my area to date, we would be able to help each other. Ever heard of anyone doing that before? Is it a good idea or should I just look for a fit girl who doesn't eat much?

thought maybe if I meet another sleeve women - we would be able to help each other

hey Tex ;)

good thought, thinking ahead about what you are gonna do about dating

finding someone who is "fit", is ok - healthy eating is important to them - so you probably wouldn't be around that much junk food

Finding another sleever is a great idea :)

there are support groups you can find (doc/NUT) can help you

you could possibly meet some nice lady there ;)

having things (like the sleeve) is great to have in common

can help/support each other - talk about what to eat

how much you both love the Protein shakes :D

meeting another guy could also be beneficial - talk about certain common issues that YOU men have!!!

there are many husbands/wives - or sisters/sisters et al - that get sleeved at the same time, and have that great support

so, yes, IMO finding another "partner" in crime is great ;)

good thoughts on surgery next month ;)

good luck

kathy

Thanks Kathy! Hopefully I'll meet someone, otherwise I'll be walking alone every night.

Just suggest other things to do besides going to dinner. I'm in the DFW area and there are so many fun things to do. Eventually you'll reveal you've had WLS but it shouldn't really matter. I've been on plenty of dates (have Lapband) and just don't worry about it.

Thanks Tara. I guess I've just always had dates where I meet a woman for dinner or lunch and then go to a movie or some other place. Now, I just need to come up with non-food related things to do. Unfortunately, DFW is the sort of place where everywhere you drive, you pass tons of restaurants. If you were to take away all the restaurants, many areas around here wouldn't even have much there if you think about it. The other problem is that I don't drink alcohol, so I don't go to bars or clubs where people are drinking. Guess I need to focus on the parks, zoo, botanic gardens. It's just gonna take the right girl who won't be sad when I don't want to take her out to nice restaurants every night.

I go to live music or out dancing and don't drink. dinner and a movie is standard but even before WLS I also thought it was nice if the guy suggested something else. Also think of meeting at non eating times. 3 in the afternoon or after 8 at night.

Thanks again Tara. I live over by West 7th St, so I know there is a lot of live music going on. Once I meet someone, we can walk there from my condo so we get some exercise on the way too.

West 7th, yes lots of live music... museums and bowling! I went bowling last night and had a blast!

also switching up and if you do find someone active and you have also upped your activity - suggest a morning walk/jog/run near the trinity then head to have coffee.

by the way Ken - are you a december sleever? IF so, check out the monthly sleevers forum called "December Sleevers come on in" and join others also being sleeved in December.

I really think you will be focused on your self for a while and having support here is certainly a great start. You will figure the dating thing once you get in your own groove.

Good luck and hope your surgery goes great!

Just found this thread. Answer: YES, you should definitely date another sleever! ME!! LOL!! I live in North Dallas, and I've been single for several years. I keep thinking I should get on some dating sites, but the only one I'm on so far is LoveAfterWLS.com -- and there weren't many people on there when I last checked.

I was thinking about this as well. food played a big part in dating before and now I don't even go out myself to eat.

Just my 2 cents

I also am single and was debating the same question. I have a male friend who had the sleeve. I had been looking into WLS since 2008 when my insurance denied me the lapband. Now that I have new insurance and having seen my friend's results I decided to go ahead with the sleeve.

My friend and I have a lot in common and he feels very comfortable with me and we have talked about many things including the dating scene. We are strictly friends as we have differences that prevent a relationship other than friendship. So I am also thinking about the future when I am thinner. If I can't have the plastic surgery I think a fellow sleever would understand and I wouldn't be so self conscious about all the extra skin I will have.

In addition to the site mentioned above there is also another one. http://www.wlsingles.com/ I am not on either one and was wondering how popular those site really are. My Dr also offers a support group which I will be going to for the first time this month. Also perhaps your area has a WLS meetup group. In our area a lady just started one, but there hasn't been any activities yet. So keep in mind anyone can start one. That might be a good alternative to the dating sites.

Well I just found this topic and it's very interesing. I am single and never really thought about it, but it does make sense to date another sleever. I should start working on that, but where do you find them?

I have met a friend who is a sleever as well and I can tell you that it is very inexpensive! We share one meal! It's pretty cool.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
