I've just joined this forum.

I'm Italian, 61 years old.

I've been banded since may 10th 2011.

I've lost 50 kg (about 100 lbs) .

I've gained 5 kg back, but I think it is something that happens to most people.

My band is my best friend.

When I had my lap band surgery I knew it was the last chance life was giving me e that, if I failed, I would live (and die) as an obese.

This is the reason why I'm determined to make my band work.

Here in Italy, when there are no more chances left, we say "it's my last shore".

I hope you can help me not to give up..

Ciao Rosetta! So glad you found this forum. There is a thread called "Hey Banders" in the 100+ to lose category -- a lot of long time banders posting on there. We are all a little mixed up because the site has recently been redesigned and they are still getting the kinks out.

I am newly-banded and very excited to be out of food jail. I'm 52 and live in the north (an hour and a half from Boston) where it is very cold this morning. Troppo freddo! My Italian is terrible these days but I love Italy and lived there for a year a very long time ago. Sending you best wishes......

Welcome Rosetta! :D I am a new bandster, four days, today. Recovering well and learning how to hang with my new Silicone Friend. :D It sounds as if your band has been a great help to you and that you just need a little kickstart to get back on track. People on this forum are so helpful and supportive and will uplift and support you in your efforts to continue in your success and healthy lifestyle. I have found this forum and the wise words of so many of the members here invaluable.

I have always wanted to visit Italy, maybe one day I will be lucky enough to be able to do so. Rome... florence... *sigh* :D

HI Rosetta,

I am married to a USA Italian. I am 65 years old, have been a lapbander for 4 years and 2 months. I have lost 100 lbs, and gaiend back some. i am trying real hard to stay under 1000 calories a day to jump start my own weightloss. I was not always fat, but afte my 30's adn a hysterectomy, I gradually gained weight to top 245. As a young girl I ws always"pleasingly plump, as they said back in the 50's) but always felt fatter than the other grls. I guess that you would say that I, too, wa at my last shore! I an't say that it was easy, fo rme it wsn't, but it sure was the best! Welcome to our site, Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
