Remedy For Stuck Episodes

Recommended Posts

Just read this online after my first stuck episode.

It worked!

Try putting your left hand under left armpit, and flap your arm like it's a chicken wing.

Until you get unstuck!

Try it. It works!

Yea, that's the old chicken wing flap, like we old timers use to use, :P these other techniques works as well, raising both hands and just jumping up and down.

What works like a charm for me is to stand still somewhere in private and take deep breaths, and message the middle of my chest (sternum) where the band is located and it pushes the food down, this actually works quicker and better than the chicken dance for me. -- this technique also stops (Pbing) vomiting for me.

Also chewing your food well, and slowing down, and taking about 1 minute between bites will prevent most stuck episodes, the less stuck episodes the less trauma done to your band.

Thanks for the wise words. The culprit was bread. After the pre and post op diets, I've been craving it, but it's clearly not my friend!

Wow, I'm filing away the funky chicken just in case! Had my first event a few days ago. Violent hiccups followed by throwing it all up.

Thanks for reaffirming what I'm suppose to know but forget at the times when I have pressure in my chest and I feel like sliming which I do. I am making a concious effort to remember that slow is the goal. I haven't had a fill yet not sure if the dr will this 2nd time around. But thanks. Have a great Thanksgiving.

If you're truley stuck, then anything you add has no place to go....I have always sipped some water..it has no choice but to come right back up...usually bringing the stuck food with it.....the body tries to do the same thing by "Sliming"...I just speed up the process....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
