Buffet By The Weight.

Recommended Posts

Since my surgery 1 1/2 years ago I have been avoiding buffets for obvious reasons, not worth the amount of food for price. Last night we went to Golden Coral and discovered they have a pay by weight option. They give you a to go box and you get what you want and just weigh it. My meal cost about 6 dollars and my wife's was 16 dollars. I got enough to bring home some for later and they have a great variety. You can get anything that will fit in your diet and ignore all the fried foods that wreck a havoc on the sleeve. Anyone else do this?

Had no idea they even did that for eat in buffets. Hometown Buffet refused my bariatric card to pay the childs price. I'm a total waste of $11 there. I usually fill my plate and take 1 bite of each thing. When I'm done, it doesn't even look like I ate anything. I end up wrapping a couple Cookies in a napkin and putting them in my purse. Gotta get at least part of my moneys worth.

We don't have Golden Corrals on the West Coast. Next time we're at Hometown Buffet (hubby luvs it. He's a low carber and can eat all the meat and veggies he wants) I will check on that option. Does it say on the board over the cashier where the price is or do u hafta ask?

I did not know that! They actually have some good lean meat options we could do if we were in a hurry. Thanks for sharing that!

I go to Golden Corral about twice a month. I eat about 1 small platefull. I know I'm not getting my money's worth, but I go there with my friends to socialize - it's not about the food. I get a wicked thrill about not being able to eat as much as my friends. While they're going back for their third plate, I'm still working on my first piece of steak and Brussell sprouts. I consider it the best $12 I spend all week!

I went there and they would not give me the kids price either. But they suggested the wright option. I have done this twice the first time my meal was only three dollars but I did not know about the to go carton. I filled it up more the second time cause I knew I could take it home for another meal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
