Any Florida Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hi. Have you had your surgery yet? None of my friends are supporting me with my decision. My best friend hasn't spoken to me since I told her a couple of days ago. I'm very excited about having the surgery on May 11th. I would love to make a "sleeve" buddy, for support. My brother will take care of me for a week afterwards. That God for him.

Hi Merrill1955,

My surgery is 5/14, what part of FL are you in? I'm in St Pete but going to Mexico for my surgery. I am only telling one or 2 people because I feel it's my struggle & only a select few will know. Good luck with everything! :)

I live in Boca Raton, Florida. I've only told a few people. I haven't gotten much support at this end. I'm very excited about May 11th. I've already started dieting and walking. Good luck on your surgery. How long will you stay in Mexico for?

I live in Orlando. Had my sleeve on April 15. Didn't tell anyone but my husband, step daughter and godmother. Flew to Mexico alone- Dr. Ortiz and the whole staff at the Obesity Center of Excellence were great.

In the end you must be your own support. Those that have great respect for your intelligence will stand behind you. Those that feel superior to you will look at you with downcast eyes. Those that love you may express concern for your welfare but will stick with you.

Operations like this would have been much more difficult were it not for the support of great forums like this one. You are certainly not alone.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
