How Long Did You Wear Your Belly Band After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

lol...well that's what I call it. Its the stomach band they put on you after surgery so when you move around your stomach doesn't jiggle and cause you pain. just curious to see how long you kept it on. I had surgery on monday and I've still been wearing mine on and off. I went for my first car ride today and walk around the grocery store with my mom and I'm glad I had it on.

I didn't have one but it sounds like it's helping you. I can't imagine a reason why it would be bad to keep wearing it.

I wore mine for a little over a week. Initially, it made me feel better to wear it.

I wore my abdominal binder for a week. It really helped with the pain when I was up and moving around

I wouldn't wear it for much more than a week. The support can cause deconditioning (weakening) of the abdominal muscles because the band can sort of over support the core and the muscles can become weak.

About two weeks. One day I just left it off and I never went back. My core muscles were in good shape but it felt good, particularly when riding in the car or sitting up at work for a few hours.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
