Just getting started

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am just getting started!! Tomorrow I actually will be going to a seminar discussing the Lap-Band. I am excited, as well as very nervous. My wt as of today is 270# and I have had it i feel tired and just plain painful, I have now developed diabetes:( I hpe to loose 100lbs. I have never had surgery before and the thought does scare me a little, a co-worker from another dept that I work with had the band placed a year ago and has lost over 150lbs., and says its the best thing she has done. that does encourage me a lot. I do feel this is the safest route, my mom and aunt have had the gastric bypass, (my mom in 78' my aunt in 04') both successful with wt loss but suffer with weakness, ill, anemia.

Good luck Shannon -let us know how the seminar goes. I am going to one on March 26 to start my journey!! I am so excited!! I have had 2 c-sections and just had gallbladder surgery in September. Surgery can be scary but you just have to remember the reason you are doing it. Be sure to ask a lot of questions to help ease your mind. GOOD LUCK!!

You are very lucky to have a banded person to talk to. I work with a guy that had the RNY. It's safer than it used to be, but for me still to dangerous. Good luck! Be sure to ask lots of questions, that will ease your mind.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
