Stuck Today.....first Time

Recommended Posts

Wow no matter how many times you read about it there is never a way to know what it feels like. I was sitting at my desk checking emails at the same time I was having some scrambled eggs. I don't think I was paying attention and just kept eating. Low and behold ----PAIN!!!

Thought I was having a heart attack! I work in a cardiac Cath lab so this is everyone's biggest fear----can't be me. Thank goodness I have read do much on here and know what it was!

I got up and started walking--no relief. I had a dip of milk----no relief. I was sweating and thought how am I going to get this to pass. Next thing---got sick!!! That pain was gone but still didn't feel all that great. First time this has happened.

Got thru the day----have only had liquids---now I'm scared to eat.

I'm scheduled for my first fill Monday. Will they still do it?

Oddly, eggs are quite often the first thing we all suffer with. You should be fine. You'll probably have a little swelling for 24 hours but sounds like you only need a small fill?

Fried eggs I can handle but scrambled eggs are a problem so I quit eating them.

Getting stuck is part of the learning process I think. I believe you need to go through it at least once and I'm sure we will all go through it more than once! Scrambled eggs did it for me also once. Now I pay attention to how i cook them making sure they don't get over-cooked until too dry. The moister they are, the lower the risk of blockage...in my opinion...

As far as I fill, your doctor will probably tell you, getting stuck isn't the same as the restriction from a fill. Fills help us get to the green zone to control our appetite and satiety. Getting stuck is just about eating too fast or not chewing well...most of the time.

I have been stuck 3 times and I have had 2 fills as of today... Keep your focus, you will be fine by tomorrow :)

It took me 4 fills and 8.5 months to get stuck. Now, I have had 3 so don't eat turkey franks any more. eggs cooked anyway are no problem. I find that I get stucks if I don't pay attention to my eating and try to eat like I did before the band. It hurts for hours and I slime like crazy. Look like a rabid dog and wish someone would put me down.

Dreading this! Hope you feel better, Ineed2dothis4me! And good luck with your first fill. I am really working on slowing down -- so hard as of course I am a recovering shoveler. You've inspired me to have another practice session today. Have done this a few times -- eating with the clock. Small spoon or fork, me and the second hand which is so slow it's unbelievable. A forkful of food, feel the sensation, return fork to plate. This part is hard as I do not want to put down the utensil. I then look around, notice what's going on inside and out, then pick the fork up again, empty. Take it to my mouth, feel the tines of the fork on my lip. Put it down -- again I resist that. Now maybe thirty seconds have elapsed. This time I let myself load the fork. I wait til the second hand hits the minute mark then I repeat the whole thing. Thirty bites thirty minutes of mindfulness. Hope this will help me the rest of the time. Doing the empty fork pickup in-between bites seems to slow me down quite a bit. I have to really take my hand away. Maybe I'll be a better conversation partner at meals!

Yes getting stuck is the worst of this process. It reminds me that I need to slow down and chew. Especially, when out. I once had an episode it was so bad I had to ask the waitress to pack up my lunch and leave. I was alone, thank god. I think she must have thought it was viral or something. It was the worst episode I've had. So now, I really try to cut smaller pieces and chew better.

I will say, if this is the one thing I'm complaining about, I'm doing okay. I'm not on meds anymore and I feel 100% better !! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
