What do you eat?

Recommended Posts

Now that I'm finally restricted, I'm getting bored of eating the same old things! But, I'm afraid to try something new for fear of it gettting stuck. So, I need some meal ideas, mainly for breakfasts and lunches, from my fellow bandsters! Any suggestions?

I eat everything I ate before. Burgers are a little bit of a challenge and the crust of a pizza. Just eat slow and you will know if it is not a good choice. CHEW WELL>

Well, since I didn't eat all the healthy before and liked things like chips and ice cream, which aren't really affected by the band, what healthy things are you eating?

I understand your feelings. i was the same way.. for Breakfast I usually have scrambled eggs.. I tend to do 1 yolk and 2 whites.. I also like the weight control oatmeal.. has alot of Protein and Fiber in it.. goes down pretty good for me (made by quaker I believe)

Lunches I usually have chicken vegetable Soup, chicken salad no celery, tuna salad, ham-cheese-lettuce rollups..

Once you are passed the mushy stage.. you will have better choices.. just eat slow and chew chew chew.. no drinking!! (that is toughest for me!)

Donnamarie

I usually drink a Protein shake for Breakfast.

lunch, some sandwich

dinner, pastas, chicken (has to be moist or in sauce), veggies, really anything. Inever really ate red meat but nibble on it now and then. I really don't have a problem with anything to be honest as long as I take it slow.

I just eat a lot slower and cautious if it is a food I haven't tried before.

You really need to give things a try and see what works. I eat everything, and I don't have a problem trying new stuff. You don't want to eat the same stuff the rest of your life, so just take a chance and try some things you like best.

Hi Tracey,

I think I just hit my sweetspot too! I know what you mean about the new foods but you just have to try them. For Breakfast I usually have egg beaters with some shredded turkey or ham and a slice of light cheese. It packs in a ton of Protein with very little fat and low caloric content. If I don't have time to make my breakfast, I have a box of shredded wheat in my desk and I pour about 1/2 cup for myself. Also, I sometimes bring oatmeal and make myself a packet. Trader Joe's has a great blueberry and flax seed variety.

lunch varies for me... sometimes it's half a Lean Cusine, or just some slices of low fat/sodium turkey and ham. Salads are another staple as they go down very easy for me. I also LOVE salmon sashimi. Where I used to gravitate towards the pizza and burgers for lunch, they just don't do it for me anymore. For starters, if it's not super thin crispy crust pizza, I'll PB. And for me, the pizza PB is the worst of all! And considering pizza was my FAVORITE food - I'm amazed at how little it matters to me.

dinner is usully whatever I make. I try to stay away from takeout when I can for the health factor and also the money factor. I made a small tray of killer eggplant parm on Sunday (baked the eggplant, not fried!). I couldn't eat much. Last night I had 2 of the 2" square ravioli as dinner and I was set! I can do chicken when cut small, chewed well, and it's moist. I think I'm definitely going to miss my summer grilled chicken sandwiches that I used to order at the grill on Sunday nights... oh the small sacrifice!

There's also a great book that I got on Amazon called Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery. They give some great recipes and many things are specifically in there for lap band limitations. Check it out and good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
