If there was a problem you would know already. The reason you shouldn't eat solids so early after surgery is that you may have swelling from the surgery and sutures are in place to hold the band as it is. Getting food stuck so soon after surgery could cause those sutures to rip away. But you'd know it by now so no harm no foul.

You're going to find as time goes by, that learning how to eat slowly, take small small bites and chew to a mush, will be the most difficult issue to conquer.

We're all so programmed to shovel huge bites of food in our mouths and quickly swallow so we can shove another pile of food in our pieholes is one of the major reasons why some fail with the band. They just can't make that adjustment.

Distracted eating is also a problem. Like watching TV while eating. You become distracted by the entertainment and before you know it you've got 3 bites of food in your mouth and about to swallow it all and experience a stuck episode.

I just got banded two days ago. The main reason for no solid foods is so you can heal. Any solid food means your stomach "shakes" things around to break them down more and move them along the digestive tract. This movement can break the stitches and move the band. I would not play around with any more solid food until you have passed your time limit.

it sounds like you will be okay. as missy said you would have known it right away if it got stuck. believe me you will know. now put that bagel on the top shelf. good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
