You Can Be Successful

Recommended Posts

Posting this to inspire anyone surfing the topics on this site. One year ago, I was 267 lbs. and in a very bad place physically and emotionally. I had the lapband surgery in January because I had no other choice. My mobility was in jeopardy, I was in tremendous joint pain, and my world was shrinking because of it. There was way more that I couldn't do rather than what I could do.

The big issues have been addressed in that I had the joint replacement surgery I needed once I got below 200 lbs. I've also noted that I'm no longer in fear of things like airplane seats, chairs with arms, theater seats, etc.

Well...last night I went to dinner and we were taken to a booth that I could see was tight. As my weight loss is still pretty new, I said a silent prayer and slipped into the seat. Not only did I fit fine, we moved the table closer to me so my dad would have some extra room.

When I got up after dinner was over, I looked back at the booth again, and simply said to my mom that a year ago, I'd have never fit in there. She agreed, and then the moment was over. But it still resonates with me. I feel like I have my life back. Not entirely yet....I'm still in a process and not finished by any means. But...again...I feel normal and that is awesome.

For all you folks not where you want to be yet, or struggling, this post is for you...to inspire and to let you know that you can, and will succeed.

What a great feeling to slide in and out of that booth! Congratulations on your weight loss and accomplishing the LB surgery as well as the hip replacement. It shows that it is all possible -- I'll bet a year ago you could not imagine being where you are now. One step at a time......

BEST WISHES TO YOU!

PS -- on your way home soon?

Thank you so much for posting this. I so needed the encouragement, I've been banded just over a month and was starting to feel down. But your words have given me hope, so I thank you greatly!

Great post and wonderful success on your part.

I am beginning to request booths now myself....it is a great feeling to know that you can now fit into a space that was always to snug before!

Good for you...hope you are feeling great after your hip replacement!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
