What Does Lap Band Mean To Your Partner?

Recommended Posts

I love to cook and I love to eat!!! I've lost 130lbs with the lap band and just 3 weeks ago had a panniculectomy. Huge procedure and it's been a rough recovery!!

When thinking about what I wanted in a partner.... I wanted someone that loves to eat!! Let me tell you.... I found her!!! Having the lap band before I met her.... She just always knew I ate slowly and much less. She also eats VERY fast... Soooooo she has to sit there while I eat!!! Hahaaaa .... I order what works best for me. I don't feel bad about it. I still cook amazing good and I love to feed people. I eat everything but don't stuff myself!!! I have the best of both worlds!!!

What is a panniculectomy?

Thank you!! You should post this on the blog as a comment so he can see it! I'm sure he would love the compliment!

Done! I edited it slightly of course so it would make sense to anyone who read it.

My husband has been supportive but when I had my first"stuck" episode he was like makes no sense just east slower or something stupid like that. He doesn't realize that this takes time to adjust to. I have been eating this way for 39 years and now I have to change my whole way of eating. Just frustrating some times. Glad you have an Awesome supporter. Mine is great too but sometimes ugh lol

Yes, I get some of that also...He chuckles when I sit there an moan because I started eating too fast and have to put my utensil down and wait to see if things are going to go down or not. Then reminds me when (if) I come out of the bathroom that slower is better...but he's very cute about it. I think they just want what's best for us and don't like seeing us miserable.... At the same time, do you watch to see how fast he eats? or washes his food down with soda? I never noticed it before my band surgery...lol

What is a panniculectomy?

. The removal of the pannus (sp?). It's the lose skin on the tummy and above the groin. I thinks it's pretty similar to a tummy tuck.....

Lol I find myself watching hubby eat. He eats like I use to. He has been very supportive, even went on my diet with me. He's lost 32 lbs. He now pretty close to his ideal weight first time in forever. I'm encouraging him go for 5 more lbs though cuz I need him to stick with me a little longer.

He ecstatic that I want to be healthy and is being very supportive. Not one complaint about the special diet I've had to be on and he a complainer. He's been considerate of me when eating things he knows will trip me up like candy he won't eat it in front of me. He's also trying follow the, rules my doctor gave me. It's nice that I don't have to argue about this with him. He's been supportive since the day I said I wanted to do this.

There will come a time when eating those things in front of you won't even phase you. If I don't want it then I don't care. It feels good to be able to say I don't want any!! But it's nice to have support!!!

That's the truth yesterday was his birthday and later he had a second piece of cake after everyone left. (it was a super small piece that I declined earlier too) and I didn't even blink about it. That was a great feeling.

You know what, my band was my husbands idea. He suggested it after watching me try and fail at many other diets over the years. I've not actually admitted that to friends and family as I don't want people to think that he may have pushed me into it. It was all my own decision and I'm so lucky that he has been behind me 100%. It really matters a lot to have friends and family that are supportive, I've only told a select few (only 2 month banded), but it's good that people know so that they know why I'm only eating small portions. I will reveal my secret to everyone once I'm used to it and I know it's working well, but that's not just yet! xx

This is how I managed it. Told a select few. After 8 months I share with everyone who wants to know. I'm proud of the results and maybe I can be helpful to someone along the way.. As for hubby, we like to say we got a 2 for 1. He didn't get a band but he's lost 33 lbs from our household improved eating habits. His BMI is now 26, mine between 29 and 30. I'd say he's definitely supportive.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
