I'm thinking about heading to Mexico for the surgery.

Has anyone had any good experiences? And with who?

My dad has a family friend in Mexico, in the capital, who said we could stay with her if we decide to do the surgery there, so that's a huge plus.

Going to Mexico!

I decided to go with Dr. Ortiz, with the OCC. I've heard amazing things about him.

I just need financing and hopefully by next year I can get the surgery underway.

Anyone have good advice with lenders?

Congrats on your decision! I'm going to OCC next month. They've been really great to deal with. I've spent over a year saving, and will only end up having to put about $1000 on a credit card. (Dec/jan are my only surgery options due to work and I didn't want to wait another year). I've heard the medical lending companies can have pretty high interest rates. You might check with your own bank about their loan options. And keep in mind that all of your medical expenses, including travel, are all deductible on your taxes, so keep your receipts.

I know someone that went to Mexico for her Vertical Sleeve and she has had ZERO issues. She had to get a personal loan to finance it. I think it was around 6 thousand not including air travel and traveling expenses. hope this helps.

Edit: the fees were 4,199 not including air fair.

I went to Mexico. While. My surgeon charged more than most in Mexico. He is a great doctor and it was well worth it. I was sleeved Sept 27, 2013. I'm down 72 pounds. It has been easier than I thought. I would not change a thing!

I had surgery on March 8th 2013. I used Dr. Garcia at ready for a change. Hospital MI doctor. I was low BMI to start with 5'5 200 pounds. Today I'm 130 pounds. Been maintaining for a few months now. I have 3 friends who also had the procedure in Mexico same result. Of your wondering about safety. I never felt any danger

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
