I am almost ready to be submitted to insurance. The only thing stopping me is the WLS doctor wants a note from my PCP showing support. I have talked to my PCP multiple times and he is fully on board. So WHY is it so hard to get this stupid letter done?

The first one the PCP sent was stupid. WLS center let me read it and it sounded like a first grader wrote it. So the WLS faxed a template to my PCP to use. Nothing. So Friday, I was at my PCP and I stood there watching my PCP write notes on the template and then he gave it to the admin to type up and fax over.

I called the WLS doctor today and they still haven't received the letter. Why not?! So I called the PCP and am waiting for them to call me back.

I have ran around going to appointment after appointment trying to get this WLS approved. Why can't just one party actually try to help me out for a change?!

Okay, vent over.

This process is not for the faint of heart! It takes forever and requires extreme diligence and advocacy for yourself.

Hang in there. It will happen!

I am just ready to move on to the next phase. I started the process on September 10, and still haven't been submitted to insurance!

I am excited and I know it will be worth it.

Same thing happend to me.. is incredible how my doctor took exactly 4 months to make a letter.. I was calling them every two weeks and their answer was his too busy rigth now... uuuggghhh i also got depressed Because I end up making an appointment just to tell him what is going on with the letter.. and he told me he was sorry about it and that he was going to fax it by the end of the week.. uuuuggghh the letter never got there.. I ended up seen some other doctor from the same team and that other doctor spoke with my doctor and finally after all those months I got my letter.. smh

Well I got in touch with my doctor again, and now the letter is refaxed and made it this time. So my chart is officially handed over to the insurance coordinator and now I just wait for approval! January surgery, here I come!

I ran into the same problem... My PCP said he shouldn't have to send a letter until it was time for my pre-op testing. i called his office first every week, then every couple of days, then daily and finally the insurance coordinator from my surgeons office called and he finally wrote and faxed the letter.

Insurance approval came through days later and my surgery is scheduled for Dec. 4th. I'm so excited!!!!

I hope my approval comes through that fast. Although I am waiting until January either way because I am starting a healthcare spending account through work to help pay for it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
