Stomach Pain...ulcer?

Recommended Posts

I have a stomach pain that comes and goes, usually gone for about a week and then flares up for a day. My Dr put me on Prilosec 40 mg which seems to help, but last week it came back and I discontinued the Prilosec which has stomach pain as a side effect. It stayed away for about 4 days and then last night the pain was so bad, along with vomiting, that the on call dr said to go to the ER. (It was 11:00 ). The ER dr gave me anti nausea meds, liquid lidocaine and some sort of drink for my stomach. She also gave me a new scrip for Pepcid Ac to see if that's easier on my stomach. The pain was bad, it almost felt like persistent cramps along with gnawing hunger that wouldn't leave after eating. I'm worried it might be an ulcer, although I don't have blood in urine or feces so that's good. Meanwhile I have stopped all acidic foods because I was eating mandarins. Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing or is there anyone with ulcers that could describe it to me? Thank you!

I have similar issues. Out of nowhere my stomach starting hurting about two weeks ago. I also had the gnawing huger pain, felt like my stomach was being squeezed extremely tight. It last for a few hours then I was fine the next day. I was gonna let it go but it happen again on Sunday. I called my nurse and she said it might be my gallbladder. I'm at a nuclear medicine office now actually having my gallbladder tested. The front desk receptionist said they get a lot of patients who had weight loss surgery that now have issues with their gallbladder. Good luck to you!

Gallbladder pain can be in your right upper quadrant, but more often than not people have pain in their back or upper shoulder. Appendix pain is in your right lower quadrant. What you describe does sounds like a peptic ulcer.... but gallbladder could cause similar problems. Blood in stool and coffee-ground emesis (vomit) is generally when it goes on for awhile. If it is that bad, I would definitely want my surgeon to squeeze me in asap and run some tests. My boss had bypass and had a GI bleed, but she kept taking NSAIDs after her surgery, which was a big no-no! But, there are a multitude of things that could cause it. Keep us posted on what your doctor says!

Please work with your MD. It could be an ulver at the surgical line (a marginal ulcer -- at the margin of the surgery), but if feels like GB. BUT we ain't MDs, keep working with the docs to get an answer!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
