The Slow Losers Thread

Recommended Posts

Boy my story is almost identical. I never get full and always hungry. I'm down from 254lb to (was) 205lb but am starting to gain. Kind of gave up on nutritionist, Dr and support group (I'm one year out). I had open surgery& 5 months later had another open surgery for bowel obstruction. Don't think I could stand another surgery if I have the same problem. I'm 72 yrs old & surgeries are getting harder to recover from. How did they find you're problem?

Thanks for sharing!!

I have you beat. I'm only 50 pounds down with surgery 3/27/12 :( I exercise 4-5 times a week. I think I lack enough Protein and Water. Working to improve. I feel your pain though

I'm so sorry to hear you ladies haven't lost more weight. I'm right with you. I can't help but wonder if it's the starvation mode thing. Which surgery did you have?

Thanks for the tip about 1/3c meal size. I had not heard of that approach. I also haven't tried to get 80 grams of Protein a day. My nut pushed 60.I will shoot for these numbers and see what happens.

The weight isn't holding me back in regular life any more but it is still an issue in my new found sport of running. My BMI is at 29, no longer obese, but still over weight. I would just feel better and preform more comfortably if I could get closer to goal. I just don't want my journey to end with me still overweight. It had been a very rough year and I want to be healthy.

I am in the exact same boat as you. My doc wants me to lose 20-25 more pounds to get to my 'goal' number but I am losing and gaining the same 3 pounds since thanksgiving. It's so frustrating!!!!

Guys, I started this thread because I thought I was a slow loser. Now it turns out, as I suspected that there was something wrong with the surgery I had. They left my stoma too big and so food goes straight through to my intestine and I have no restriction. I wanted the bypass as it's supposed to be the gold standard and I wanted the restriction. It wasn't to be. I don't know where I go from here but are all of you guys sure that your surgeries went as they were supposed to? You may be feeling bad and blaming yourselves for something that's not your fault.

I think you can have a GB revision. My doc says it's not done too commonly but they can do it if needed. Your case sounds like one where a revision would be needed. Not a 'reversal' - not even sure if that's possible - but a revision to correct a problem. Have you talked to your doctor about what can be done? Or another doctor?

Oh no I'm so sorry. Did your doctor offer a solution? I had the GP but I worry something is wrong. I have a pain in the left side of my stomach. It's not constant it feels more like a burning, twist and pinch. That's the best way I can describe it. I feel it when I stretch my arm up or turn a certain way. I don't feel like I have any restriction either. I'm not eating enough to really determine that but right away I could eat an entire pudding cup. I can also eat a piece of chicken. hmmmmm. I hope your situation gets worked out.

I felt the same way post-op (no restriction). Your pouch is in shock for a bit after surgery and things are numb. You're also eating pretty much all liquids, which moves through quickly. Once your insides calm down and you start to eat more substance you'll really notice the difference.

Two pounds a week adds up to 104 lbs in a year. Don't get discouraged with steady weight loss. I was a two lb a week loser, in fact the most I ever lost in one week was 4 lbs and that was the week my mother died. I hit my goal after 16 months and weigh 112 lbs now wearing a size 2 petite. Moral of the story: it can be done, just follow your plan, move as much as you can and don't compare yourself to others. Remember weight loss is a personal journey and no two people will do the same thing. Good luck and enjoy the journey! ! :)

I am definitely joining this slow loser club. I am 5 weeks out and only down 17 pounds. I have been stalled the last 3 weeks. It is frustrating for sure. I also can eat anything with no problems so I am grateful for that, just wish I was seeing more movement with the scale.< /p>

I see my doctor for my 2 month check up. I had surgery 11/11/14 and have lost 64lb. I am worried that I am loosing to fast. But I'm more afraid to stall. Emotions are all over the place.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
