I'm a nurse and I've honestly never heard of this before. had to google it. Not sure that a skin disease would prevent u from having the sleeve unless they were worried about an infection spreading during surgery. That might be

Good luck and thanks for the education today. U learn something new everyday

I would guess it depends on how bad a case you have and what kind of meds you have to take as a consequence.

Whether you're on steroids or antibiotics and whether there might be a conflict?

I can't imagine they would though...

Weightloss, I would have thought, would only improve things?

I have hidradenitis (ugh, I HATE it.) For those who don't know what it is, it's a (usually) chronic skin infection of sorts that show up in big boils in the crotch area, under the breasts, in the armpits, and can be anywhere else on the body as well, but usually wherever the sweat glands are. From what I understand, there's no cure. Outbreaks generally don't go away on their own and you need to take antibiotics. I haven't had an outbreak for a while so my skin is in pretty good shape, but I can see where a surgeon may not want to operate. I guess it really depends on how severe the outbreak is and where it's located on the body. I would also talk to your dermatologist to see what they have to say.

There's some good news, though. Obesity seems to trigger hidradenitis outbreaks, so as the weight comes off you may notice them becoming less severe. In my case, I had them really bad when I was 324 pounds and now that I'm down to 260 I get them a lot less often. I'm hoping that they will go away altogether when I get sleeved and come down to a healthy weight.

Hope this helps!

Ouch! I don't know if I had hidradenitis but I have had several boils in the crotch/rectal area (Yes, it is truly a PITA.) One thing that I have found to help get rid of the boils/abscesses is the spice turmeric. For some reason it helps drain the abscess and they're not nearly as painful. I would still get antibiotics for the actual infection but turmeric was a life saver for me and basically stopped them from forming. I've heard many other good things about turmeric as well. Anyway, you can get capsules so you don't have to taste it going down or you can make a nice curry as well.

I have hidradenitis. And had my surgery on October 18. So to answer your question, no they will not postpone. :) mine has not improved at all. In fact it has gotten worse. I'm hoping its due to my decreased Water intake.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
