thinnatater 36 Posted November 20, 2013 I have heard and read many positives of using both Prilosec and Miralax - not necessarily together but I suppose you could if needed. I'm curious - I don't feel like I have acid indigestion but I do think I feel hungry when I may not be - so I have heard Prilosec is what to take. I've also heard to keep things regular w ease to use Miralax. Please share your thoughts on the use of these two products and if they have helped you. Or on the flip side - you used them and saw no difference. My inquiring mind wants to know
Sassy Pants1 186 Posted November 20, 2013 My doc gave me a 3-month prescription for Prilosec, which I take twice daily without fail. I've read many times that acid presents like hunger so I stick with meds. And I've had no issues with vomiting or heartburn. I've not taken the Miralax though I really need to. I just can't get 8oz down very fast. So I use Dulcolax. They are super tiny so they slide right down. I will switch to Dulcolax when I can drink fast enough to get the dose down. newat52 1,613 Posted November 20, 2013 I take an over the counter reflux twice a day. I had reflux before surgery and have it now if I don't take it. It's a rather low dose but it does the trick. I eat more spicy foods since surgery so it comes in handy. Miralax. My dear friend. It has saved me and served me well. I still use it to this day over 8 months out. Protein is a huge poop maker and If I don't get proper Fiber, it becomes my best friend. Don't be afraid of it. I throw a teaspoon in my morning shake if needed. Gentle relief. Don't let Constipation get you. It's miserable and not pretty. Good luck to you!
jdmama911 224 Posted November 20, 2013 I never had acid problems before surgery....after though, it's been a different ball game. If I forget to take my Prilosec for a few days, I really really pay for it. Then I take a Prilosec and within a few hours Im back to normal. It has worked miracles for me. I have no idea about the Miralax, and interested in seeing if it helps people. I was actually having the opposite problem for the first 6 weeks. But the last month, Im only going like twice a week :/ It's a bit uncomfortable lol
livvsmum 2,369 Posted November 20, 2013 I never had heartburn/reflux issues before surgery, but take my prilosec prescription daily. Like others have said, if I feel ok and skip a few days, I am miserable. I haven't had issues that I needed miralax for, but my daughter takes it time to time and it works like a charm. I should add that the big bottles of miralax can be pricey, but if your insurance covers it, you could get a prescription instead and your prescription co-pay might well be less than the OTC price. Shells_Almost_There 357 Posted November 25, 2013 I received a Prilosec prescription post-op, but didn't end up taking it very long because I had no acid (or hunger) issues at that point. My surgeon's office advised to take it if I ever had acid symptoms. So, around week 7 post-op, I suddenly started waking up with a terrible acidy stomach. So, now I'm taking it again. As for the miralax, yes, I would recommend finding something you can stand. At this point I have the Phillips brand magnesium caplets to help with this darn Constipation. Good luck! Beach Lover 1,084 Posted November 25, 2013 It is very true that acid mimics hunger and the acid reducer is the magic cure. I take 1 in the morning and sometimes 1 in the evening. I used to take it in the evening all the time but don't seem to need it as much now. The miralax is something that a lot of people take daily or colace which is what I take every morning to avoid the dreaded Constipation.
