Also I heard briefly you can never have Motrin again? Ever. What pain killers are allowed after surgery

Untrue. NSAIDs should not be taken for 2-3 weeks post-op because of bleeding risk. When you're healed up it's fine to take them.

Check with your MD. NSAIDS are not approved (ever) in my program. NOT saying that's right or wrong, though... just a consideration...

NSAIDS are banned for me too. Unless a rare occasion and even then, closely supervised.

They can cause bleeding ulcers. I personally know two people who had that problem.

I was given a list of drugs that fell into that category and told to avoid.

I was prescribed lortab liquid for post op. 15 mil worked quite well for me.

That said, I'd ask your surgeon.

NSAIDs are banned for life for me too.

I also think it's important to remember that just because a surgeon has an MD degree doesn't mean he or she practices medicine. Most of their job is cutting and sewing - not medicine. There is no legitimate medical reason for banning NSAIDs [taken in moderation] for life unless you have an ulcer condition. Do you have any idea how much ibuprophen you'd have to take to cause a "bleeding ulcer" that wasn't already there? Enough that you'd be in the hospital already for an overdose.

I'd be very careful. After surgery for some reason ur stomach makes way more acid that can cause ulcers even if you've never had a problem. I know I never had indigestion or heartburn and now I get nausea in the mornings until I take my prilosec

I agree. It's like saying saccharin give u cancer. If u give an 8oz mouse 2 lbs of saccharin and they get cancer, well....

My program also says no NSAIDS ever again. That being said (and I dont recommend going against ur drs orders) I take ibuprofin about once a week. Tylenol does nothing for me. I still take aspirin for headaches also

I guess I'm a rule breaker....

I was concerned about Motrin also. It has always been the best pain killer for me and I used it 2-3 times/week before surgery for headaches, body aches, etc. Interestingly, I just realized that since the initial pain of surgery wore off after the first week post-op, I haven't had any headaches or joint pain or muscle aches! Ain't it great :)

I so totally agree!! I had at least one headache a week before surgery. Now I'm 18 days out and not one headache so far! I'm so happy. I took Excedrin Migraine and new I couldn't take after surgery. It feels great not to worry what I have to take!

I thought the topic was about alcohol too.

I'm 4 mths out and drink a glass of red wine everynite. 100 calories well spent, in my opinion! I started drinking wine at about 2 mths. My dr had no rule pertaining to alcohol except "it's empty calories"

Have been craving wine and don't ever drink it. I'm a month out. Never drank wine before surgery, not sure why I want it now !

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
