Two Parts To Sleep Apnea Test?

Recommended Posts

I'm assuming it's the overnight sleep test?

They hook you up to a bunch of electrodes from head to toe- which is painless. They let you relax a bit, take a sedative if you were prescribed one, then you're told to go to sleep. You have to spend a certain amount of time sleeping on your back to see how your oxygen levels are in that position because that's how you'll be during surgery.

I personally hated the sleep study. Not because it's painful or anything, but I found sleeping while hooked up to all that stuff in a strange room next to impossible.

Good luck.

i went twice......one to test to see if i had apnea and i had a mild (case?)

and then a second one wearing the cpac....it wasnt bad....i took my sleep meds, they hooked me up

and i woke up.........took bout 10 min to put goo and wires on and 10 min to take off.....i never heard of anything like that and so it was interesting to see and do and see the results (esp the dream state stuff)...no worries ok :)

...........FYI, been off cpac for 10+ months....gotta love weight loss

Mine was the same. First night without CPAP to see if I had a sleep apnea, second night with the CPAP.

Mine also was the same, two nights. Diagnosed with mild sleep apnea but when they tried fitting me with the mask discovered I was claustophobic, so couldn't wear a c-pap or the bi-pap. Now that I have had bypass don't think I have apnea as my daughter says I'm not snoring when I sleep on my back or in the recliner.

i actually had a 2 part study. the first part was the sleep apnea test. i ended up with a cpap and had the best night sleep. the second part was a day time study to see if i had narcolepsy. meaning falling asleep during the day out of no where. driving is the worst. i was positive for that test too. but the drugs ritalin. i hated that drug made me have anxiety attacks.

I suggest wearing comfortable loose clothing and maybe even shorts if you can do it. They connect a ton of leads as the others have said. Head, chest, legs, all over and shorts would make your life easier.

I had a sleep study unrelated to preparing for band surgery -- it was some years ago. The hospital had a room set up kind of like a hotel. There was a very nice technician who hooked up all the leads. There was a kind of pony tail of leads that could be disconnected if I had to get up to go to the bathroom. I arrived in the late evening and then got all set up. Watched TV for a while then lights out at 10PM. It wasn't bad. I was such a poor sleeper that I was used to it! In the morning they took off all the leads and I went home. A few days later I met with the doctor and learned that I had woken up something like every minute to a minute and a half. I was prescribed a CPAP (sleep machine) and I use it every night. It allows me to reach a deep state of sleep, something I hadn't had in years. I have nose pillows which are much less invasive than a full mask. I did think that getting proper sleep would enable me to lose weight -- that there was a connection there. Alas, no weight loss resulted from getting my CPAP. Now that I'm banded I am hoping to get enough weight off to possibily do without the CPAP. We'll see! Good luck to you. Don't work yourself up as it is really not that big of a deal. Probably good to have a little sense of humor about the whole thing.

I haven't used mine going on two months now. I do need to get re-tested but no time available until after the New Year. I no longer snore at all and I actually dream again. I cannot sleep with the CPAP now as the pressure is too strong compared to where I was 3 years ago.

So i guess the first part was just to get all my medical history. Now to wait for them to call with a date for the study.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
