Zumba 11 Days Post Op?

Recommended Posts

I had my band on November 7 and want to do Zumba tonight.

I still have the steri strips and see the surgeon next Tuesday Nov 26.

Don't know if I should wait to see him or if I should be ok? I know to stop if I start hurting- wouldn't be the first time I walked out.

Ok.. where is that post about the guy who popped an incision working on his car...hmmmm... (snicker)

Although it's fantastic that you feel the energy to do this, I still think it's premature. Did your doc give you a guideline as to when you can resume lifting, exercising etc? I think the avg recommendation is 2 weeks postop depending on how conservative your doc is.

I seen that post! I was just thinking its more dancing and not pulling/pushing type exercise. My instructions are no strenuous exercise for 4 weeks to keep my core "quiet".

So I guess that's my answer :(

Good for you for wanting to get moving, but in my opinion it's probably a little too soon for Zumba. Let yourself heal so you'll be ready to kick some butt! :)

I've been wanting to start sit ups but haven't done them yet because I don't want to mess the port up. I want to start toning ASAP so I dot have as much loose skin once I get to goal.

Irish,

I'm not sure of your particulars (ie age, current weight, how long you've been overweight, or how your weight is carried etc) but I just wanted to share a realistic viewpoint that sagging skin for most obese people is inevitable. I am in no way discouraging getting active and trying to get toned, but I also don't want you to be under any disillusions that this will solely prevent sagging skin.

If docs orders are 4 weeks, than it's best not to do anything until than :)

I've been doing a an amended workout -- just recumbent bike and treadmill, no BowFlex or core stuff. Today I really wanted that BowFlex -- love that stretch-out feeling. First thing I thought of was the pictures of that incision popped open (thanks for sharing that, Josh!). So no stretching out like that for me or weights, etc. Just going to have to weight. Here's the thing, this is not the old me talking. Pre-band I would take any excuse not to exercise. I did it because I'm 52, have arthritis and have to move or I freeze up, but now I want to exercise. What a great thing! I feel like a switch got pulled. I don't overeat and I look forward to a walk. Who is this?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
