Great Article On Low-Carb/high Fat Diets

Recommended Posts

Ugh. I continually worry about the fact that I can easily hold more than that. I see these threads that say "You should only be able to hold 1/4 cup" and it freaks me out. I can do 1/2 cup easily (not more, but still.) Oh well. I'd be worried about something regardless.

Well but so can my husband. From the beginning, he had been able to hold 4 oz and me 2 oz. now my capacity is slowly increasing, his hasn't increased as much. I think it has to do with size of original stomach', shape of it, and how fast your swelling goes down. Nothing to worry about. Seriously.

I can eat a LOT of food at 6 months out. Certainly much less than in "the before time" but I'd bet 12 oz.

I still start the day with a Protein shake, and, for the reason's Fluff describes, will continue to do so.

I am 9 months out and still have about 5 shakes per week. Usually as my "evening" snack. I have found that BJs now carries EAS pre-mixed shakes that are only 100 calories for 11 ozs and 17 grams of Protein. 24 pack for about $26 very economical and taste great. This usually fills me up before bed so I won't reach for something else.

Agree with the Atkins Protein theory as the method of loosing weight. I do fill like an occasional small roll, or potato is ok maybe only 2 servings per week or so. I feel like extreme anything is not sustainable.

On a side not Gamergirl, I am noticing a new tag under your name "staff". What does this mean? Are you employed by bariatric pal?

No I'm not employed by them. A few of us were asked if we would volunteer to help out on the forum by welcoming new members, answering threads/questions that no one had answered, just trying to welcome people and help where we could. I have gotten so much out of this site, I felt I should give back where I could so I agreed to help.

GG, have you seen this article? http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/cross-check/2011/05/16/thin-body-of-evidence-why-i-have-doubts-about-gary-taubess-why-we-get-fat/

I'm just reading it now. I bought Good Calories Bad Calories as an audiobook to listen to when I'm traveling. Maybe I can finish it that way! But I want to make sure Taubes' opinion is still worthy. Hence googling him.

Interesting. I do think a no veg stand is highly detrimental to health. But I also agree that some people can indeed eat carbs with no ill effects. I wonder if Gary doesn't need to take an extremist stance just to prove his point? I mean, where are the bucks in saying just cut out sugar and processed carbs? :) cynical of me, eh?

I think it'd like troubleshooting a machine. We each need to find what works for us and we are not all the same. So glad you shared this!

Interesting. I am taking my obese son in to be baseline tested for diabetes, cholesterol and the rest. I am sure that at least some of his issues lie in insulin resistance. But I don't know how to make the medical professionals (or him, for that matter) take this seriously. If I had a dollar for every time I was recommended a high carbohydrate, low-fat diet, I would be a very rich woman.

I will try again. So I think all meat no veg is a disaster. I also think there are many people who are not carb sensitive and live a great life with them. The trick is in finding out which sort we each are and eating to suit our chemistry.

I also wonder if Gary has to be more extreme in positioning his public personna? I mean, where's the story in don't eat processed, refined carbs? :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
