Was wondering from other RNY patients how long your hospital stay was and how long before you returned to work? I have an easy desk job and need to get back to work ASAP.

I stayed for over 2 days before being released.

As for work..I took 3 weeks off cause I'm a nurse and my job was always hectic and crazy. I might could have managed a desk type deal but I was pooped for awhile afterwards.

I was in patient 3 1/2 days, they held me hostage an extra night because I wasn't 'passing gas' (now, post RNY, I pass gas CONSTANTLY...irony). I stand all day, I took off a week and a half then did 3 days 1/2 days, at 2weeks post op I was full time....and man was I washed out by the end of the day! I kept my heating pad at work and when I had a chance to sit down and do charts I'd have that puppy snuggled up to me....it was awesome. I had hot tea I sipped on all day cuz I was freezing :) I was ready to go back though, it kept me busy and moving. I had an amazingly easy recovery..

This is all good to hear! I haven't had surgery yet. My doc is saying he wants me out 4-6 weeks. I can work from home, and I don't want to panic my employer, so I'll start with saying I'll be out two weeks, and then extend it if I need to, assuming I will. Then maybe I'll just work from home for a week, etc. I will, however, honor my body and how I feel. But it's good to hear you all adjusted quickly.

I was only in hospital over night. I started a new job one week post op. Thankfully it was all training - sat in a class and listened to someone speak all day. The only pain I had was where my pants hit the incision in my stomach. Extra padding with gauze made that go away.

I had surgery in 10/30/13 and was released 11/1/13. I went back to work on 11/4/13 I too have an easy desk job. The only thing is you have to be able to walk some do you don't get blood clots.

I was in the hospital overnight. I took two weeks out of work but could've gone back in one (I was cutting grass after one week). I work in a bank so it's not strenuous. I'm on my feet most of the day and certain days are nonstop busy. I felt good and didn't really feel fatigued at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
