Hey!

I went to my post op appointment last week and i asked the nutritionist what kind of pain meds i can take when i need them and she said TYLENOL - because advil can create a hole in the pouch.

So, I went to the store and bought tylenol - it says "contains: Acetaminophen" right on the front of the bottle.

Is that okay to use?

yes, it's fine. That is what Tylenol is, Acetaminophen. Banded people need to avoid NSAID classes of drugs. (non-steroid anti-inflamatory drugs) Like aleve and mortin, they have been known to cause ulcers. ~Mandy

no problem. If you have a problem with taking tylenol it also comes in adult strenght in liquid form. ~Mandy

Tylenol also makes a great cold medicine in a liquid. I have problems with pills and take liquids whenever possible. I know that Meijer makes a generic liquid acetaminophen, and I think walgreens does too. ~Mandy

I was always and Advil girl...but I've adapted well to the Tylenol and their entire line of products.

I have back problems from time to time...I can tell you that Tyelnol is NOT going to cut it next time my back goes out. I wonder what my alternatives will be?? :)

When I had surgery in Jan I was given liquid loritab (vicodin). Most pain meds come in liquid form or you can break/crush them. ~Mandy

Terri.....one alternative for pain control might be a pain patch....my mom takes Dermagesic (Fentnyl)...it's a controlled substance and she can only get 30 days/time but it works very well. Comes in about 3 strengths.

I've always taken Motrin but the nurse told me to stop taking it because it contains a blood thinner agent. I have switched to Tylenol liquid. Fortunately I've only had to take it once.

There is also a lidoderm patch, it is a pain patch that is non narcotic. I use them when my knee gets really bad. Something to think about. ~Mandy

Gayle - the fentanyl (duragesic) pain Patches are only for use in opoid-tolerant patients because they are highly addictive - so that definitely wouldn't be an alternative.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
