Hello All,

I am a new member. Have been researching lap band surgery and I am still just as confused as before.

I probably have the same questions and worries that everyone else has (had).

I am 58 years old (I still can't remember when old age was able to sneak up on me). Its always been hard for me to loose weight and I'm afraid this may be something else that didn't work.

I have pain everywhere all the time; fibromyalgia, constant severe lower back pain, my knees are gone and now my feet are going. I feel "bad" all the time. No specific diagnosis, but bunches of little ones. Chronic renal insufficiency and the back pain are probably the biggest reasons.

I have a morbid fear of anesthesia, although I've had surgeries before and no problems, it never gets any easier.

Have I waited too long? Is it too late to change any of these problems?

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

Anyone that has has similar problems, please, any words of encouragement would be appreciated.

Thanks, Suzanne

Hi Suzanne, Welcome to Lapband!

I have fibromialgia also. I feel a lot better since I have lost the weight. The band and I have done great together. It is a personal choice. I can only tell you about how I feel about my experience, and if I had to have the band all over again I'd do it in a heart beat.

Please ask anything you'd like on here we have a great support system.

Do you live in NC I live near Charlotte. There is tremendous support here in this area.

Have a blessed day

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
