Crossfit And My Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I started doing crossfit two months prior to my surgery. My trainer took my measurements before I started and then the day before surgery. I finally got back to my trainer to work out about two weeks post op and we did my measurements again. I have lost an inch from each of my arms, 2 from my bust, 3 from my waist, 2 from my hips and 3 from each one of my thighs. I couldn't be more excited!

I've seen the term CrossFit in a few places but I am unsure of what it is. Can you give an explanation? I am in my 50s, do you think it is something I can do?

It's something that you would want to talk over with your doctor before you try it. It's similar to cross training, moving from one exercise to the next and combines cardio with strength training.

That's amazing! How often do you work out with your trainer? Do you do CF exclusively, or do you throw in other things? Thanks!

Two months prior to surgery I was doing it three times a week. Post op I have only been able to do it twice a week. I do plan on training for some 5Ks after the first of the year.

2 weeks post op, do you feel any pain doing CF? I have been afraid of ruining my sleeve due to the intensity.

I took things very slow. It takes me twice as long to get through a normal workout and I am only able to do 10% of the weights and intensity that I use to do pre-surgery. I am very careful with any core focused exercises. I don't recommend it for everyone. Have a conversation with your surgeon and then make sure you have a good personal trainer that can modify everything for you. Best advice my surgeon gave me was "listen to your body." He also said it's not possible to rip your sleeve lighting weights. The surgeons get concerned about your incision sites coming open. But my surgeon said I was healing twice has fast as normal, which is why he didn't have a problem with it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
